WE WON! 🏆 Absolutely delighted that Deco House has won the Dezeen Awards 2026 Public Vote for Kitchen Interiors! The kitchen was designed around the needs of a passionate chef, with bespoke curved walnut joinery, brass detailing and Scottish Ledmore marble. It’s wonderful to see a project that embraces colour and craftsmanship receive such an incredible response. What began as a deeply personal project, developed in close collaboration with our clients, has received recognition on an international stage. To be first shortlisted from 4,300 entries across 91 to be one of 112 interior projects, and then to be one of 14 winners is a great achievement. A huge thank you to everyone who voted, to the clients for their trust throughout the process, and to all those involved in bringing the project to life. Working in close collaboration with the client the rear extension was designed around the needs of a private chef, the kitchen balances generous working space with a more crafted, domestic character. Curved walnut joinery wraps around the room, detailed with brass inlays and set against a sculptural island formed in Scottish Ledmore marble. The geometry, material richness and fine detailing carry subtle references to Art Deco, while the layout opens the kitchen towards the dining space, garden and park beyond. A huge thank you to everyone who helped bring it to life. The natural grain and vertical staves of the timber bring warmth and character to an otherwise restrained interior. Over the course of the following year, we worked together on a handful of artistic works and installations, and last summer, thanks to the generosity of @dunhousequarry_ltd I took up residency on their site with support from @britannicus_stone who commissioned me to begin working on said block. Over the last half-year from solstice to solstice, with the assistance of @wilf_sears and @rozthestoneman I have carved, polished, and chiselled away at this 18 tonne lump of #swaledalefossilstone exaggerating the curves and planes present due to millenia old glacial erosions. There are a few finishing touches, and a site for installation is yet to be confirmed, but I am very excited to soon reveal in its wholeness, the work I have so far named as a working title "Menhir". I will be sharing a full write-up of this process and experience here and on my website soon, so watch this space. Piece - 1849. #shiningstonesofbritain #swaledalefossil 16 Jun 2026 We’re thrilled to finally share the Altor Dining Table, one of the most ambitious pieces we’ve made so far. Combining wood and stone, it gave us the chance to explore new materials and ways of working, and to push the boundaries of our design and craftsmanship. The top is made from limestone from Yorkshire, patterned with crinoidal fossils from an ancient marine bed and formed over 350 million years ago. The base is made from an oak tree that fell in a friend’s garden in Devon, shaped into flowing, asymmetrical curves. We’ve always loved working with wood and exploring the many different timber species the UK has to offer, but we were keen to experiment with new materials, and introducing stone into our work felt like a natural next step. This led us to @britannicus_stone, a company with deep expertise in sourcing and quarrying British stone, and a commitment to championing it as an alternative to imported marble. Working with them opened our eyes to the incredible range of materials available in the UK. Among the many options, Swaledale Fossil captured our imagination and became the starting point for this piece. When it came to designing the table, we wanted the base and top to speak to each other, with a form that echoed the fossil-rich patterns of the stone. Alongside working with a new material, we pushed ourselves beyond our usual boundaries of craftsmanship, exploring a more sculptural, asymmetrical language than we’d attempted before. The weight of the limestone meant everything had to be carefully thought through — proportions, structure, and how the form could support the top without ever feeling heavy. We’re delighted with how the piece has come together, and excited that the project has opened up a new direction in our work. The Altor Dining Table is the first piece we’re sharing from a new series combining wood and stone, with several other pieces being developed in parallel. It’s now in Britannicus’ showroom in Chelsea, and during @londoncraftweek this May we’ll be showcasing it alongside the rest of the series. More photos coming soon. 13 Jan 2026 We supplied and manufactured these Dumfries Red sills for @phthalo.studio studio, who have sensitively refurbished this Edinburgh flat. Dumfries Red is a striking Scottish brecciated conglomerate, its rich tones and dramatic fragments bringing warmth and texture to the space. #DumfriesRed #Naturalstone #ShiningStonesofBritain #interiordesign 23 Sep 2025 It’s been a pleasure collaborating with @1508london on the Principal Bathroom for @houseofrohl.uk at WOW!house 2025. Together, we brought British stone to the fore, with our Swaledale Fossil used for the floor, solid shower step and tray. A true celebration of craftsmanship and considered materiality, made even better by sharing the space with our friends @novocastrianco, and so many other exceptional designers and makers across the house. We are proud to say that our Swaledale Fossil was also proposed for the stone bridge. The central composition is formed by an exact cast of an awe-inspiring oak from Windsor Great Park, representing her strength and endurance and the historic place of the monarchy in our constitution. It stands on a plinth in the lake. A gracefully curved stone bridge embeds the memorial in the surrounding landscape, serving as both a viewing platform and public space. Its use for the feature shower wall, bath, worktops, and splashbacks showcases Swaledale’s versatility in interior applications. #SwaledaleFossil #NaturalStone #InteriorDesign #BritishStone #ShiningStonesofBritian 14 Mar 2025 One of our favourite projects featuring Swaledale Fossil to date — thoughtfully designed by @des_ewing_architects and expertly crafted by @smcconnellandsons_stone. This traditional home showcases the durability and versatility of Swaledale Fossil, with detailed hand pitched walling, sills and window surrounds that celebrate the material’s natural character.
