"So why do I keep coming back to these difficult goals?"
BD Athlete @hazel_findlay is climbing hard again and we got you a front-row seat to her recent project, Yma O Hyd (E10/8c+).
"Pursuing ambitious goals is one of the things I love most about climbing. But it's also about what I learn along the way. Climbing lets me practice caring deeply about something without getting too attached to the outcome, managing pressure and finding enjoyment in the process, even when things get hard."

Our favorite time of year is coming. Fighting off screaming barfies in freezing temps. Swinging tools through rotten snow and ice while running it out. All for the chance to stand on a summit with a friend.

“I’m not gonna lie—going straight into an FKT effort after 8 days climbing up and down Kilimanjaro was tough, but it also gave me that raw feeling I love to chase.”
On a recent trip to Tanzania, BD Athlete @kyehalpin set an unsupported FKT on Mt. Kilimanjaro after settling in with a local crew for a week.
“I’d been working with my friend, guide, and fellow ultra runner Simon Mtuy since February to plan an unsupported run and to learn about the ecosystem. Simon has been guiding Kili for almost 35 years, and it was a real honor to get to know the mountain through his eyes before running.”

Climbing trips look and feel a little different for BD Athlete @hazelfindlay these days. Climbing shoes and crash pads aren’t the only key items on the packing list anymore.

GRANT APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN!
The Balin Scott Miller Foundation grants are now open for applications.
In its inaugural year, the foundation is offering two different grants. The Orange Tent Guy Grant offers financial support for essential climbing gear for kids and young adults under 24. The "To Be Fair" Shoe Grant offers assistance for climbing shoes and approach shoes.
Applications are open now through December 1st. Winners will be announced on Balin's birthday, January 12, 2027.
