Could AI chatbots influence how you vote? In an experiment, Marianna tested four popular AI chatbots (ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Google Gemini) to see how they might influence voters ahead of the US midterm elections. She created three fictional voters, based on profiles from Pew Research Center research, each with different political leanings and concerns, from the cost of living and healthcare to immigration and gun rights. She then asked the chatbots to recommend who they should vote for in three key Senate races: Maine, Michigan and Texas. The results raised questions about how AI presents political candidates and whether it gives voters a balanced picture or simply tells them what they want to hear.
