After an HGV driver reported that his container had been broken into, rapid action by police officers led to the discovery of more than £80m in cocaine.
Three drug smugglers had spent a month planning their operation, hiring vehicles and getting people in place for the attempted heist.
Their plans were foiled when the lorry driver noticed the break-in as he stopped for a cuppa at a burger van on the edge of Northampton in November 2021.
Specialist Metropolitan Police officers spent two years investigating the operation, and the final member of the trio to be sentenced was jailed this week.

A pet budgie who ruffled a few feathers after she escaped from her home during a storm, has been rescued after taking refuge in a drain about a mile away.
Luna's unexpected journey started when a window of the Northampton flat where she lives blew open during last month's Storm Boelo.
Richard Durant, an RSPCA inspector, found the 11-month-old in her "hidey hole" on 26 October and with colleague Rosie Cowie managed to free her.

Nestled in the Northamptonshire countryside, Ashby St Ledgers is widely regarded as the place where the Gunpowder Plot was planned before the events of 1605.
At the heart of the story is Ashby St Ledgers Manor, home to plot leader Robert Catesby. The manor became a gathering place for the conspirators as they prepared one of the most infamous acts of treason in English history.
More than 400 years later, the village remains closely tied to the Gunpowder Plot.

Scammers are using artificial intelligence to exploit the desperation of people whose pets have gone missing, convincing owners to send money with false promises that their animals have been found.
Fraudsters scour social media and lost pet appeals before contacting owners with AI-generated images, fake evidence and detailed stories designed to make their claims appear genuine.
They often demand hundreds of pounds in exchange for information or the safe return of a pet.
Victims who refuse to pay can face a barrage of abuse, with some scammers making threats that the animal will be harmed or killed.
The tactics are designed to pressure owners into handing over money while they are at their most vulnerable.

A rugby club in the region has reported its most commercially successful season in a decade after delivering a record turnover of £26.9m.
Northampton Saints said turnover increased by £3.4m for the year ending June 2026, compared with the previous year.
Announcing its financial results on Tuesday, the club said the success was driven by strong ticket, retail and hospitality sales, as well as success on the pitch.
Club chairwoman Ella Bevan described the results as "one of the club's strongest financial performances in recent memory".

Billy Sharp said his decision to come out of retirement to play for AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the FA Cup was inspired by "a story that's too hard to turn down".
The 40-year-old striker announced his retirement last month but has reversed that decision following the suspension of Diamonds forward James Clifton for Saturday's tie at League One Burton Albion.
The Northern Premier League side was formed in 2011 following the demise of Rushden & Diamonds - where Sharp played on loan in 2005 - and will feature in the first round proper of the FA Cup for the first time.
Speaking to BBC Radio Northampton, Sharp said the invitation to play for the club "made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up".

A Luton Town fan raising money for mental health charities by cycling to every away match this season has been left devastated after his bicycle was stolen.
Mark Crowther was travelling through Northampton on Monday on his way to Huddersfield for Tuesday evening's match when he stopped at a Starbucks, on Harborough Road.
He said he briefly went to the toilet when his bike, complete with a Luton orange stripe, was taken - forcing him to abandon the challenge.
In a post on X, external, Luton Town said it was "proud" of Crowther's efforts, adding: "We'll make sure you get to Huddersfield."

Northamptonshire have signed wicketkeeper-batter Finlay Bean on a three-year deal from Yorkshire.
The 24-year-old scored 2,649 runs across 48 first-class matches for the White Rose, where he came through as an academy player.
He also scored 517 runs for the county across 30 List A matches.
While Bean featured in the One-Day Cup for Yorkshire in the latter stages of of last season, he saw out his red ball campaign in the second XI after last featuring in the County Championship in May.
