The lift off that my team of beautiful collaborators helped me achieve takes my breath away. Thank you dear @tingalayo, for helping me chase down this wild horse. Today, Alex Sopp, the flutist, composer, vocalist, and visual artist released the title track "The Hem & The Haw" from her upcoming debut album The Hem & The Haw (April 19, 2024). Sopp has been praised by the New York Times as “exquisite” and “beautifully nuanced”, and is a founding member of yMusic, The Knights, NOW Ensemble, and the Berlin-based Between Worlds Ensemble. "The Hem & The Haw" is a driven, upbeat, and lush ode to the “push-pull tug-of-war that happens within when one is paralyzed by the potential of forward motion. It's a dance between the voice within urging you to move in infinite directions and the terrifying fear of said infinite directions. Here’s a morsel (with cadenza!) of the premiere of “Rhapsody on a Theme by Joni,” for flute and orchestra. @asoppsfables is a magical flutist and @theknightsnyc played with so much joy, soul, and focus. This has been a composer’s dream come true and I’ve been FLOATING on Cloud 9 all week. ☁️😁 Alex was my muse, and of course the great Joni Mitchell, but I also threw in some #iykyk flute quotes - I even quoted myself! @bw.ensemble Whirlwind Trip to Thessaloniki! 1) precious moment of @aviavital absolutely tormenting me with a paper bag containing a giant fish head . I’m still haunted. 2) it was a really special concert and I got goosebumps on the back of my neck for the first time in a long time when @_alessiatondo_ sang Na Na Na ❤️ 3) rehearsal circle! 4) @simospapanas being brilliant and leading us through some beautiful arrangements of Greek folk songs. It was so incredible to get to play them HERE and if I had any concert footage I’d show you Raiko! 5) my sister @_alessiatondo_ sharing the bond of the pomegranate with the fam (October tradition!) 6) Alessia and Luca being brilliant 7) about 1/700th of the seafood that I consumed in 2.5 days. 8) always looking for cats 14 Oct 2026

Here is some art and animation work for BAHAMUT, a piece that is a part of Osvaldo Golijov’s evening length Creation to be premiered in Boston in November. (It is set here temporarily to the end of my own song, Loon.) I loved making these beasts and bringing them to life over these last months. Walk my little beasts! Move freely! Run wild and run weird. I can’t wait to share more and see it all come together soon. And biggest of thanks to the @priorperformingartscenter for supporting this work! ❤️ 06 Oct 2026

It’s October and it’s been a year and I Hemmed and Hawed about whether or not to post this. This last year was BREAST CANCER AWARENESS YEAR for me, personally. I’m *well* on the other side of all of that now and you can probably *feel* the epic sigh of my relief as it blows your hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes back wherever you are in the world. Whhhoooooooosh. I’ve learned a ton this year, and one of them is that cancer is a part of life. However, early detection, whenever possible, is everything. Get screened. Stay on top of it. Set reminders. Take the lifetime risk assessment tool and email the results to your doctors. Never worry for a single second about being an annoying patient.
