In 2020, The Straits Times featured my story with the headline, “Tough childhood made her hungry for success.” Six years later, I look at this article and realise how much my relationship with money has changed. When my father passed away, I was 14 years old. Our family struggled financially, and I started working odd jobs to support myself. By 18, I had saved $20,000 to pay my way through university and start investing. Back then, I thought making more money was the solution to almost every problem. I was hungry for success. But looking back, I wonder how much of that hunger came from ambition and how much came from fear. Fear of being poor again. Fear of losing everything. Fear of depending on someone else. Eventually, I achieved financial independence at 35. But I learnt that having enough money and feeling that you have enough are two very different things. Today, through Better Money EQ @bettermoneyeq, I've been coaching students who have walked similar journeys. They grew up experiencing financial hardship, worked hard and eventually became successful. Yet, despite their financial achievements, many still carry deep fears and anxieties about money. Some struggle to spend on themselves, while others constantly worry about losing everything they've built. Their financial circumstances have changed, but emotionally, a part of them is still living in the past. After 15 years in the financial industry, I've realised that knowing how to make money doesn't necessarily mean we understand our relationship with it. Our childhood experiences can shape our financial behaviour long into adulthood. That's why I founded Better Money EQ. I spent the first half of my life learning how to make money. Now, I'm learning what money means to me. After all, what's the point of achieving financial security if we never allow ourselves to feel secure? 08 Oct 2026 Sometimes growth looks like letting go and choosing a different kind of success. As Seth Godin said in The Dip: “Winners quit all the time. They just quit the right stuff at the right time.” 20 Apr 2025 Today I was interviewed live on MONEYFM 89.3 on Money and Me with Michelle Martin, we shared about what Money EQ actually is, how our deepest money patterns form, and why identity is the real lever for lasting financial change. The episode is titled: “Retire at 35? The Real Secret Isn’t Money — It’s Your Money EQ.” 🎙️ Listen here: https://omny.fm/shows/moneyfm-midday-show/money-and-me-retire-at-35-the-real-secret-isn-t-money-it-s-your-money-eq To my all followers & readers, thank you for being here and for those who just recently followed me… here’s a little about me: Over the last 15 years, I built a career as a financial adviser, qualifying for Court of the Table and Top of the Table which is the industry’s highest performance benchmarks. By most measures, I had made it. However somewhere along the way, I started asking a different question. It’s isn’t how much is enough? but what is all of this actually for? That’s when the real work began. The hardest money conversations, I discovered, aren’t about portfolios or products. They’re about identity. About the fear that lives underneath the numbers. About why high earners still feel anxious, why disciplined people still self-sabotage, and why financial knowledge alone rarely changes financial behaviour. That’s what led me to money coaching and to earning my Certified Money Coach (CMC)® designation. I wanted to understand the psychology underneath the decisions. The childhood conditioning. The emotional triggers. The stories we inherited about what money means and what we deserve. Today, through Better Money EQ, I work with people who are earning well but not living well and help them close that gap. And since today is May 4th may the force be with you. And if the force you need right now is a better relationship with money, you know where to find me. 🖤 P.S. Please help me to share the link with your friends and family if you found it useful. Thank you. 🤗 04 May 2026 My future boyfriend HAS to drive a Tesla now, I DON’T CARE!! 😭 24 Oct 2026 Comment ‘SNAP’ and I’ll send you the full workflow, free. Top: Seedance 2.5 on @gentubeofficial . I love driving, but my PHV experience made me realise how mentally exhausting driving can be. Think about it. How many times have you encountered drivers who refuse to give way, speed up when you signal to change lanes, or honk aggressively over the smallest things? I've always wondered how many road accidents could have been avoided if people had simply put their egos aside. Then there's driving fatigue. Even the most experienced drivers are still human. We get tired, distracted, frustrated and occasionally make poor decisions. After spending hours behind the wheel, I realised that driving requires more mental energy than most people think. That's why Tesla's Cybercab feels like a dream come true for me. Imagine having your own personal chauffeur who never gets angry when someone cuts into your lane, never retaliates when another driver honks, never gets sleepy and never feels the need to prove a point on the road. A driver with no ego, no emotions and no driving fatigue. 😂 Of course, autonomous vehicles aren't perfect. There are still safety concerns, regulations and real-world challenges to overcome. And I recognise that this technology could affect the livelihoods of people who depend on driving for an income. However, imagine a future where fewer accidents happen because of human fatigue, distraction and road rage. Wouldn't that be something worth looking forward to? For someone who loves the freedom of owning a car, the idea of sitting back, reading a book, catching up on messages or simply enjoying the journey while my car drives me around sounds wonderful. I think the future of driving isn't just about making humans better drivers. It's about creating a future where we don't always have to drive. And personally, I can't wait for that day. 😃 @teslamotorssg thanks for the invite!❤️ 22 Oct 2026 The future of driving is here @teslamotorssg Driverless and fully autonomous car is the dream of mine. Stay tuned for the reveal! 😍 #cybercab #fsd #teslamotors 21 Oct 2026 Have you ever wondered how much your beliefs about money are costing you? After more than 15 years in financial services, I've come to realise that knowing what to do with money and actually doing it are two very different things. We can teach someone how to budget, save and invest. But what happens when deep down, they believe they're simply not good with money? They might avoid looking at their bank statements because they're afraid of what they'll see. They might spend money to feel better about themselves, struggle to say no when someone asks for financial help, or constantly feel guilty about spending on their own needs. These behaviours may seem unrelated, but they can be connected to beliefs we've carried for years, often without even realising it. And the interesting thing is, these beliefs don't necessarily disappear when we start earning more money. I've met people who are financially successful yet continue to struggle with feelings of insecurity, guilt and fear around money. That's why I believe financial education shouldn't stop at teaching people what to do with their money. We also need to understand why we do what we do with money. A spreadsheet can tell you where your money went. But it cannot tell you why you keep repeating the same financial behaviours. And perhaps the first step towards changing your financial situation isn't another budgeting strategy, but becoming curious about the beliefs that have been shaping your decisions all along. You know what to do with money. We work on why you don't. 💛 If you're ready to explore your relationship with money, you can book a discovery call with me through the link in my bio or just drop me a DM. #BetterMoneyEQ #MoneyPsychology #FinancialWellness 15 Oct 2026 When I was a child, I struggled terribly in school. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't seem to do well academically. I kept failing exams and even had to repeat my first year of Junior College. I still remember my first day of school as a repeat student. The principal addressed our group as "retainees" and decided to give us a financial lesson. He told us that a fresh graduate earned an average of $30,000 a year, and by repeating a year, we had essentially wasted $30,000 of our future earnings. Imagine hearing that when you were already feeling ashamed of failing. How motivating, right? 🙃 No wonder I hated school. University wasn't much better. I managed to graduate, but with a GPA of just 1.0. My mother used to tell me that I would grow up to be poor and jobless. She even called me a "good for nothing". Those words stayed with me for years. However, one thing about me is that I've always liked proving people wrong. Perhaps a little too much. 😂 So I worked hard. Really hard. I spent years trying to prove that my academic results didn't determine my future, and that I wasn't the failure people made me feel I was. Looking back, I wish someone had told that younger version of me that struggling in school didn't mean I was stupid, and that my worth was never something a GPA could measure. Anyway, after all these years of hard work, failures, sacrifices and perseverance... I FINALLY GOT MY PHD!!! 😭🎓 I guess I can finally call myself successful now. Please admire my PHD. Professor paddle. 🏓😂 14 Oct 2026 It's school holidays and my baby sitting duties includes a drawing competition with my nephew Jairus 😂 he says the theme is under water. What do you think? We need a judge for this competition 🤣 12 Oct 2026 I think this photo turned out like this that because of the haze in Singapore🤣 #pickleballislife 10 Oct 2026 😷The haze is getting worse in Singapore 08 Oct 2026
