WAYS OF [ ] WACHTLIJST
Op 12 september spelen we samen met onze collega's van Percussions de Strassbourg (@percussions_de_strasbourg) op het Gent Festival (@gentfestival). De voorstelling is uitverkocht, maar je kunt je aanmelden voor de wachtlijst en misschien heb je geluk!
Ways of [ ] is een audiovisuele compositie die voelt als het ontstaan van een nieuw soort gedeelde intelligentie. Je ziet en hoort hoe de digitale entiteiten en menselijke musici elkaar leren begrijpen: eerst wat zoekend, daarna steeds vloeiender. In drie grotendeels geïmproviseerde delen ontdekken de spelers hun eigen stem, en vinden ze uiteindelijk een gezamenlijke muzikale taal.

WAYS OF [ ] WAITING LIST
On September 12, we’ll join forces with our colleagues from Percussions de Strasbourg (@percussions_de_strasbourg) at Gent Festival (@gentfestival). The performance is sold out, but there’s still a chance to get in: sign up for the waiting list and keep your fingers crossed!
Ways of [ ] is an audiovisual composition about the emergence of a new kind of shared intelligence. Digital entities and human musicians meet, listen and learn to understand one another — tentative at first, gradually finding their way into a more fluid exchange.
Across three largely improvised sections, the performers search for their own voices, respond to one another and, step by step, discover a musical language they can share.

Wat betekent het om mens te zijn in een wereld vol andere vormen van intelligentie? Op 12.09 stelt Zeno van den Broek zich deze vraag in het gratis slotconcert van OdeGand, Ways of [ ]. Twee muziekgroepen spelen samen met vier zelfspelende percussiemachines, waarvan algoritmes gevoed werden met ritmes uit de industriële geschiedenis. Ways of [ ] voelt aan als een nieuw soort gedeelde intelligentie. Een moment waarop digitale en menselijke musici elkaar leren begrijpen.

Ever wondered what the inside of the earth sounds like, how the things we notice shape our ideas of the world, or whether a human can keep up with the steady beat of a machine?
Tuning into the vibrations deep within the earth, Justin Bennett’s @justinbennett_nl film ‘Vilgiskoddeoayvinyarvi: Wolf Lake on the Mountains’ (2018) reflects on our relationships with technology and with each other. Gradually picking up fragments of the space around us, both mirror and camera lens in Sam Scheuermann’s @samscheuermann performance ‘Mirror set-up’ (2025) seek out the details they wish to hold onto. In Zeno van den Broek’s @zenovdb film ‘From Voice to Pulse’ (2022), a human voice and robotic percussion perform an algorithmic composition side by side.
‘Matters of Being’ opens up the question of what film can be — a soundscape paired with a light composition can be just as cinematic in its storytelling as a movie. Across the evening, cinematic techniques are examined in various forms, from performance and installation to artist films and documentaries. The programme closes with a moderated conversation between the artists and the audience.

Listening to the vibrations deep within the earth, Justin Bennett’s @justinbennett_nl film Vilgiskoddeoayvinyarvi: Wolf Lake on the Mountains (2018) debates our relationships with technology and each other. Slowly noticing fragments of the space around us, both mirror and camera lens in Sam Scheuermann’s @samscheuermann performance Mirror set-up (2025) search for which details they want to hold. Rewire | In Ways of [ ] van Zeno van den Broek bundelen de muzikanten van Les Percussions de Strasbourg en HIIIT (voorheen Slagwerk Den Haag) hun krachten met vier ‘entiteiten’ kunstmatige intelligenties, getraind op de ritmes van hun industriële voorgangers (denk: stoomtreinen en mechanisch geweld).
Wat ontstaat is een fascinerend samenspel waarin het stuk deels is voorgecomponeerd en geprogrammeerd, en deels tot leven komt in het moment zelf. 🎶🤖
Een unieke ervaring waar grenslijnen vervagen en nieuwe vormen van muziek ontstaan.

Stap in Klankenkoorts
Een multidisciplinaire tentoonstelling waarin muziek de verbindende kracht vormt tussen architectuur, beeldende kunst, poëzie en experiment. Je beweegt als bezoeker door een compositie waarin kijken, luisteren en ervaren samenvallen. Geluid krijgt vorm, beeld krijgt ritme.
Met werk van Remko Scha, Kiri Mioki, Sabrina van den Heuvel, Zeno van den Broek, Michiel Waisvisz, Anouk Kellneren pionier Greta Monach.
Klankenkoorts bekijk je niet, die onderga je. Een zintuiglijke ervaring die binnenkomt en blijft hangen.

‘Interstice: a dialogue between two rooms’ unfolds on 28 March from 20:00–00:00.
Guided by Max Frimout (@maxfrimout), artists Nikita Berezko (@nktabr), João Brito (@j_brito____), Giulia del Gobbo (@giuliadelgobbo) and Farah Hijazi (@farah.hijazi90) invite you into an environment where sound, light, movement and bodies continuously reshape the space.
Across the evening, the installation shifts through rhythm, interruption and presence — as boundaries blur and new relations emerge between what is seen, heard and felt.
Joined by Pepe Garcia (@pepe.artist) and Zeno van den Broek (@zenovdb)’s Digital Entities, the collective activates both rooms in a shared, evolving experience.

🎆 STRP Festival • « Ways of [ ] » performance by @zenovdb
On March 27th at 8pm, STRP presents Zeno van den Broek’s Ways of [ ]: an audiovisual performance where human percussionists and autonomous percussion machines share the stage, listening, reacting, and learning in real time.
Built with HIIIT and Percussions de Strasbourg, the piece brings four self playing digital entities into the ensemble.
You can feel a new kind of collective intelligence taking shape. Hesitant at first, then increasingly fluid, as humans and machines find a common language. A live question, not a statement: what is intelligence, and what does it mean to be human today?
