Imagine being thirsty, but water is just not available to you. Imagine having to walk kilometres to get a bucket of water for cooking or bathing. Water is indispensable to children’s survival. But across situations of conflict and violence globally, it is increasingly under attack. To parties to conflict and governments: this cannot be the new normal for children. Protect children's right to clean and safe water. Learn more in our new #WaterUnderFire report via the bio. 01 Jan 1970 Imagine you turn the tap and nothing comes out. Or the water runs dirty. There’s dryness in the back of your throat. There isn’t enough to clean yourself or wash your clothes. For children in conflict zones, that is the reality. Attacks harming water and sanitation services have increased alarmingly. Join us in saying: children’s rights to water everywhere must be protected. #WaterUnderFire 05 Nov 2026 Across conflict zones globally, children’s right to safe water and sanitation is increasingly under threat. The impact? Diseases. Malnutrition. Exposure to violence. Disrupted education. To protect children, we must protect water and sanitation from attacks. Learn more in our new #WaterUnderFire report via the link in the bio. 01 Jan 1970 An attack harming water is an attack on children. In Sudan, these attacks by parties to conflict are forcing children to spend hours collecting water instead of living their childhoods. Mayer, 13, is one of them. Watch and share his story. Join us in calling for the protection of children and their right to safe water. #WaterUnderFire 06 Nov 2026 “When there is no water, I help my mom,” says nine-year-old Sashko in Ukraine. Since 2022, almost every child in Ukraine – nearly 7 million – has been impacted by attacks harming water, sanitation and energy systems. Children and the life-saving services and assistance they rely on must be protected. Read our new #WaterUnderFire report via the link in the bio. 05 Nov 2026 Join Saleh, 10, on a day in his life. First displaced when he was just two years old, Saleh has no memories of his hometown, except for the stories his father shares. Recent escalations of violence in Yemen have forced his family to flee once again. UNICEF and partners are delivering mental health, nutrition and learning support in camps like these. Share Saleh's story and join us in calling for peace for children in Yemen. 04 Nov 2026 UNICEF is deeply alarmed by reports that three children were killed and five others injured when an airstrike struck a school serving displaced children and families in Loikaw Township, Kayah State, Myanmar, on 31 October. Further airstrikes were reported in Rakhine State over the weekend, including one that struck a temporary healthcare facility, reportedly killing a newborn baby and healthcare workers. These reports are yet another stark reminder that children are bearing the brunt for the devastating conflict in Myanmar. They are being killed and injured in the very places where they should be safe and protected, including schools and healthcare facilities. UNICEF calls on all parties to the conflict to uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law and take all necessary measures to protect children. Schools, healthcare facilities and other civilian infrastructure on which children and families depend must be protected. UNICEF is working closely with partners to assess the needs and coordinate support for affected children and families. 03 Nov 2026 What if changing a girl’s future starts with changing the conversation at home? In Jordan, mothers and daughters are coming together to talk about child marriage, adolescence and the choices that shape a girl’s future. Through the UNICEF-supported Stronger Together programme, they learn side by side, share ideas and, perhaps most importantly, learn to listen to each other. The programme aims to reduce child marriage among girls aged 12 to 17 by strengthening one of the most important relationships in their lives: the one between a mother and her daughter. For Umm Mohammad, the experience changed how she understands her daughter. Learning about adolescent development helped her see that teenagers need more than rules and instructions. They need patience and to feel that their voices matter. It also changed how she thinks about child marriage. “A girl needs time to mature and understand herself and her needs,” she says. Her 13-year-old daughter, Aseel, felt the difference, too. “I now feel that she listens to me and cares about what I say.” These conversations can ripple beyond one mother and daughter, changing how families think about girls’ choices, education and readiness for marriage. Every girl has the right to grow up safe, heard and empowered to decide what comes next. #GirlGoals © UNICEF/UN0890763/El-Noaimi 02 Nov 2026 “I wish I could go to school.” Brothers Hamza, 16, and Jamal, 12, remember their life in Gaza before the war - one with notebooks, schoolbags and a bicycle. Their home was destroyed, and they live in a damaged tent. They spend their days collecting waste to earn money to help support their family instead of attending school. Watch and share their story. Over a year since the announced ceasefire in Gaza, many children live in tents, overcrowded areas or bombed-out buildings, amid mountains of rubble and accumulated solid waste. UNICEF continues to reach hundreds of thousands of children and families with water and sanitation services, learning and psychosocial support services. Children in Gaza still dream of and aspire to a better future. A ceasefire that protects them must be a reality. 02 Nov 2026 When girls step onto a court, a pitch or a track in your community, are they cheered on or criticised? Tell us what you think! Take our @ureport poll by sending EQUAL in a Direct Message. Your answers will help UNICEF and its partners create spaces where every child and young person feels welcome and free to participate. #GirlGoals 02 Nov 2026 Aliye, 6, washes her hands next to her home in Türkiye. Thanks to a UNICEF-supported programme, children like her are learning proper handwashing and hygiene practices to help keep themselves and their communities healthy and safe. © UNICEF/UNI1012394/Kulu 01 Nov 2026 At a nutrition centre in Sudan, Samah gives her young daughter Sidra ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF), an energy-dense nutrient paste used to treat malnutrition. Conflict, displacement, worsening food insecurity and economic hardships continue to drive a severe nutrition crisis across Sudan. UNICEF supports partners and nutrition centres like these, including in the hardest hit areas, to provide nutrition and health services to children and mothers. What children in Sudan need the most is peace and access to the life-saving services they need. © UNICEF/Elfatih 31 Oct 2026
