In the early years of Marc and I dating, I started keeping a secret little stash in the back of my closet. It was a random assortment of items I had begun collecting—an indigo-dyed onesie, a crib sheet with peaches, a carefully curated assortment of children’s books, a bib that said “give peas a chance”. I had always ached so deeply to be a mother, but it wasn’t until I met Marc that I felt that dream taking shape. Fast forward to the present day, and he is now the father of our perfect son, stepping into his new role so naturally, so wholly. Marc—thank you for effortlessly being the dad I always knew you would be—strong and soft, creative and capable, silly and sweet, a leader, a protector, a chest to fall asleep on. Becoming a mother has been the greatest joy of my life, but watching you as a father might be tied for first. I love you. We love you. It’s hard to believe that our son, our blue-eyed blonde-haired little otter, is already 2 months old. I’ve been meaning to share these photos that were taken when he was just two and half weeks old, but I’ve been busy soaking up his sweet smiles, and comforting his cries that are somehow even sweeter. It’s not usually like me to spring for studio photography, but a few days after getting home from our challenging hospital stay, I spent the early morning hours just marveling at Roman, and when Marc woke up, I promptly told him I wanted to have Roman’s newborn photos taken. I just wanted to capture the way he looked, so pure and innocent, and hold onto it forever. When my sister and I were kids, in true 90s fashion we used to pour over coffee table books of babies styled and photographed by Anne Geddes. We both dreamed of someday having our own teeny tiny baby to love and snuggle, and of course, dress up and photograph. My sister’s four babies are now teenagers, but my little one is finally here. These are completely raw and live re-imaginings of my songs arranged by @spill_sounds and produced by @stefannmac . @danesandborg ‘s bass is some of my favorite performances from him ever, my constant musical companion, @andrrewwwwww added this incredible layer of depth and shine with his keys and presence, and @levimatulis provided the most reliable and grounding drumming I’ve ever experienced, he held us all like we where babies in his pram.
