my first post on this account that isn’t a reel lol.. I’d first like to say, thank you all for the opportunity to be an advocate for Tourettes. My plan for this journey is never ending. However, I am not the “Tourettes girl.” Nobody should ever be defined by their condition alone. I am a person. “there’s hope for the rest of us.” The discourse continues on about whether or not people with Tourettes deserve to be out in public, socializing with “normal” modern society. But nobody is normal. There isn’t a normal. We all have flaws and qualities about us that make us distinct from one another. We shouldn’t WANT normal. We should be accepting of diversity. We are not caged animals that should be shunned for being human. It is heartbreaking and miserably cruel that since February, there has been an increase in people stating that they’d invoke violence against people with Tourettes. That we should wear muzzles. That we shouldn’t be allowed to leave our homes if we cannot control what we say/do. Why are people fighting for separation and discrimination instead of equality? People with disabilities have goals. Lives. Aspirations. Hobbies. I will not allow myself to be put inside of a contained, empty space just to make others comfortable with my presence being forced out of the public. And neither should you. 02 Oct 2026

“We rip out so much of ourselves to be cured of things faster..but to feel nothing so as not to feel anything.. what a waste.” TW: talks of religious psychosis and trauma Something I wish people understood is that, developing severe Tourettes when you primarily grew up Christian is scary. For a short period of time in 2021-2022, I believed that I actually was possessed or that if I did undergo traumatic surgeries and treatments, I’d be cured. On a daily basis, I am reminded that others really DO believe that we are demonic for being disabled. It reminds me of my trauma over and over again when I receive these comments. I wish people understood how cruel it is. When you say these things, remember WHO can see it. Not just me, but everyone, including young children and teens who may have tics or Tourettes, can see your comments. So when you come across my posts, religious or not, spiritual or not.. please do not comment things like this. It is triggering, and it is very harmful. 25 Aug 2026

“I’m going through changes.” Developing severe Tourettes was one of the most life changing experiences I’ve ever had. Going from mild to severe tics over the years has taught me that while it’s a huge change, I don’t have to be ashamed of who I am. I dont have to be afraid. I am who I am, and I accept my tics. It’s been years, and I’ve never been more proud of myself for how far I’ve come. And i am proud of all of my fellow people who have Tourettes and tics as well. “I try to be better, I tried.” I received my diagnosis of autism in 2023, and got re-evaluated this year for more insight and guidance. The heartbreaking part of it all is that, despite how much i struggle with the debilitating symptoms of it all, people still tell me that i seem too pretty or too smart for the diagnosis. They forget it’s a spectrum. And most importantly, it is so incredibly under diagnosed in women, ESPECIALLY black women (which i will make a detailed post about in a few!) these are a few of my symptoms. Though not everyone will relate, i hope some of you can. 💗 i hope i am succeeding in helping others feel less alone. I love all of you.
