Have you found a coin yet? ⁠ ⁠ We go behind-the-scenes with artist @ryanjgander for ‘The Find Seoul’, which distributes 16,000 coins – each one with a binary choice inscribed on it – across Seoul during Frieze Week. ⁠ ⁠ As Gander explains, ‘The Find’ is more than just a glorified treasure hunt (unless you see the whole of the art world as a glorified treasure hunt). The Find Seoul August 31–September 10, 2026 This upcoming Frieze Week, Seoul has a new currency. British artist Ryan Gander brings The Find to Korea for the first time, transforming Seoul into a citywide scavenger hunt. From August 31, specially produced limited-edition coins will be hidden across select cultural and public spaces throughout the city. Free to find and yours to keep, the coins borrow the familiar language of currency while proposing a different kind of value, one shaped by curiosity, attention, and chance. Following editions in Manchester, Cáceres, and Okayama, The Find Seoul unfolds across the city alongside Frieze Seoul and its citywide programming. We’re excited to share the documentation photographs of Ryan Gander’s One Hundred Things Twice, a newly commissioned exhibition at Salzburger Kunstverein. @ryanjgander 👯 So, are there really one hundred things? Yes. And no. The exhibition brings together one hundred things paired with another way of seeing. A thing twice is not necessarily a copy. It might be an echo, a near-match, a front and a back, a beginning and an end. Gander’s works often begin precisely where certainty starts to fail. One Hundred Things Twice unfolds through slight misalignments and interpretive drift. One thing happened; another almost did. One thing sits before you; another version of it begins to form in memory. Perhaps less a collection of stable objects than a field of relations between them. Meaning does not belong to the object alone, nor to the artist, nor to the viewer. It circulates between them. An artwork is no longer only an object placed in space. It becomes the time it takes to notice it, the expectation it interrupts, the behaviour it produces, the other works it calls to mind, and the route one takes towards it and away from it.
