🙌 We are delighted to share that @postcodeloterij Nederland has renewed its partnership with the Federer Foundation for another three years.
Since 2019, their multi-year, unrestricted funding has allowed us to invest where it matters most: ensuring quality early learning for children. It also helps us strengthen child development tracking and education data systems, and the use of evidence to help governments make informed decisions about education funding.
This renewed support will contribute to achieving our 2030 vision of making early childhood education and development more accessible, so that even more children in Southern Africa get the opportunity to learn, play and thrive. Swipe through for a look at what can do with support from generous partners like Postcode Loterij Nederland.
A heartfelt thank you to Postcode Loterij Nederland and to its players. Every ticket bought helps make work like ours possible. 💙

🧑🏫 Join us in celebrating the dedicated teachers who give young children those first important building blocks for a strong foundation for learning.
Working with our partners and their own communities, teachers form an indispensable part of our programme. They are passionate and committed to delivering the best education possible to their young learners. They invest their time in self-study courses and exchange experiences with their peers to finetune and improve their educational offers. They involve the parents and the community to contribute to their children’s education. They track children’s development using assessment tools, which allows them to better support individual learning journeys.
This World Teachers’ Day, we thank the teachers who give their all so that every child can learn, play and thrive in their early years!

🎆 As the people of Lesotho 🇱🇸 celebrate Independence Day, we mark the progress made so far in advancing early childhood care and development in the country.
Since 2020, the School Readiness Initiative (SRI) has expanded steadily through a phased approach, increasing support for primary schools offering Reception (pre-primary) classes to 496 sites, with approximately 32,000 children reached and 1,479 teachers trained.
@catholicreliefservices (CRS) Lesotho has joined the Network of Early Childhood Development of Lesotho (NECDOL) as an implementing partner and is working on 180 of these sites. This work will continue until 2028.
A recent independent evaluation of the SRI showed increased school readiness, improved conditions for early learning and increased community involvement. This was made possible by working alongside the Ministry of Education and Training, the Lesotho College of Education, @unicef.lesotho as @gpforeducation Multiplier grant agent and private sector partners.
We are proud to work with such committed partners in Lesotho to ensure that every child can learn, play and thrive!

📖 Before a child can explore science, tackle maths or dream about their future, they need the ability to read and understand the world around them.
Millions of children reach late primary school without being able to read a simple sentence. This isn’t a small gap, but a crack in the foundation that widens with each passing year.
This is why we support quality learning across the domains of literacy, numeracy and socio-emotional development, with continuity from early childhood into the early grades.
Findings from the evaluations of our School Readiness Initiative, to be released in the coming months, prove that when communities, governments and partners invest early, children show stronger development across the domains before starting Grade 1.
This International Literacy Day, let’s champion:
🖍️ Strong foundational skills in the early grades
🧑🏫 Support for teachers delivering quality early education
📚Access to books and learning materials for every child
📊 Systems that catch struggling learners early
By investing in the basics, we can ensure that every child has a strong foundation on which to learn, play and thrive.

🎂 Wishing our founder @rogerfederer a very special birthday!
Here are some highlights from the work our partners across diverse sectors have been doing in Lesotho since his visit:
🖍 The Ministry of Education and Training has aligned the School Readiness Initiative (SRI) with national policies, is expanding reception (preschool) classes and has increased early childhood care & development funding and is supporting implementation.
💰 Partners from the private and development sectors, including @gpforeducation (GPE) and @unicef.lesotho have supported the above efforts with funding.
📝 The Lesotho College of Education has integrated the SRI’s ChildSteps into the national assessment tool.
We are grateful to our implementing partners NECDOL and CRS Lesotho for their support and dedication!
Working together, we can ensure that all children in Lesotho get the opportunity to learn, play and thrive!

We would like to thank all our partners who made our time at FLEX2026 such a success! 🙌
Our team members returned from Lilongwe inspired and excited to continue to work through partnerships to give children across Southern Africa the opportunity to learn, play and thrive!
We were privileged to be a part of the FLIGHT launch with Echidna Giving, Hempel Foundation and @gatesfoundation as well as to once again join forces with @gpforeducation to unlock more funding for early and foundational learning in Southern Africa.
Key takeaways included:
➡️ Data is the foundation for stronger early learning systems.
➡️ Quality foundational learning requires a whole-system approach.
➡️ Early learning, school readiness and foundational learning are all part of a continuous journey.
➡️ Sustainable progress is possible when governments take the lead.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the @adea.africa Association for the Development of Education, the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Hub, @speakupafrica and @unicef for giving us the opportunity to contribute to the meaningful conversations around strengthening data and advocating for greater investment in early and foundational learning.

🛫 Launched at FLEX2026, the Foundational Learning Initiative for Government-led Transformation (FLIGHT) aims to connect Ministries of Education across Africa with targeted catalytic African technical support that responds to governments’ existing foundational learning priorities.
➡️ Governments can now co-create an FL Reform Brief together with the FLIGHT Secretariat.
Through FLIGHT, governments, partners and funders are working together to combine resources in support of stronger education systems.
Alongside Echidna Giving, @hempelfoundation and @gatesfoundation, we are pleased to contribute so that even more children across the continent have the opportunity to learn, play and thrive.
▶️ In the clip, Joan Osa Oviawe, Executive Director of FLIGHT, provides an overview of the initiative.
