Today is a very special day for all of us animal lovers! Today is Remember Me Thursday 🕯️ A day created by Helen Woodward Animal Center (@hwac) to highlight the importance of adoption and to remember the millions of animals who never made it out of the shelter Today we all come together to flood social media with rescue pet stories, adoptable pets, and honoring those who didn’t get their second chance at life. Will you join me?! Here’s how you can help: • share your rescued pet’s story on your account & encourage your followers to adopt their next pet from a shelter • share an adoptable pet on your account • use the hashtags #remembermethursday and #ShineALight Your post could save a life!!!! This photo is my own rescued pup, Birdie. She was adopted from @hwac in 2019! We love her so much. She is truly one of my best friends ❤️ 24 Sep 2026

Meet Micky & Minny! ❤️ “I have two amazing rescues. Micky + Minny. Micky is three. Minny one. We just got Minny a month ago. :) Both are rescued from Texas. Through Texas Chihuahua. - @mickyplusminny” 23 Aug 2026

Meet Teddy! ❤️ “Name - Teddy Rescue (adopted from) - Schnauzer Rescue of Texas Instagram - @Teddy.theminischnauz” 08 Aug 2026

Happy National Mutt Day! 🎉 How will you celebrate your mutt today? Extra treats? Longer walk? New toy? This is my special mutt, Birdie. She’s a mix of Golden Retriever, Labrador, Chihuahua, Pittie, and 11 other breeds! Mutts are the BEST! ❤️ 31 Jul 2026

An oldie but goodie! ❤️ Being ‘the chosen one’ by an animal is the greatest honor! I think all of us animal lovers can agree on this… ESPECIALLY if you’re an introvert! If I’m at a big party or small gathering, you will find me sitting with whatever pet is available 😆 24 Jul 2026

Meet Estie! ❤️ “You previously featured my sweet old guy Rudie! He died on 2/4/26 at the ripe old age of 14+. I didn’t think I’d be ready to adopt again for a while, but on 5/19/26, Estie came into my life! She had been surrendered to Asheville Humane Society (NC) with very little background information, and was so stressed by shelter living. She is 6+ years old and has a chronic (but manageable) condition, hypoparathyroidism. I was immediately charmed by her sweet face and gentle demeanor. We are still in that getting-to-know-you phase, but already have so much love for each other! We are working on her isolation anxiety and leash reactivity to other dogs. Sometimes it feels tough, but she is so worth it. I just think it’s good to be transparent about the hard parts! She is so affectionate, LOVES her tennis balls, and has the best stretches ever (see video). She doesn’t have an IG handle, but I’m @seamsnsutures. I want more people to adopt older dogs!!!” 497 likes · 16 comments · 14 Jul 2026

Did you know more pets go missing on July 4th nationwide than any other day of the year?! Did you know July 5th is the busiest day at the shelters, as people scramble to find their lost pets?! There is less than a week until the 4th of July, start preparing TODAY! Make sure your pets have collars with up-to-date ID tags securely attached to them. It’s also a great idea to have your pets microchipped, just in case their collar falls off. 🇺🇸 Petco and Petsmart have personalized ID tags starting around $8. You might be able to find less expensive ones through your local animal control - call and ask! Amazon also always has tags for super cheap! Please make sure every pet has a proper tag on. 🇺🇸 A lot of shelters will have promotions on microchipping leading up to the 4th, in anticipation for the overhaul of lost pets. Contact your local shelters and ask if they are running any specials on microchipping. Most vets will charge somewhere between $25-$60 per microchip (totally worth it!), but you can often find lower prices at shelters and low-cost vaccination clinics. 🇺🇸 Keep your pets indoors during fireworks, with the windows shut. Leave the TV or radio on for them to drown out some of the noise. Make sure they have a space in the house where they can hide and feel safe (a dark closet, a quiet laundry room, etc). 🇺🇸 If your neighborhood is like ours, fireworks usually last several days not just on the 4th - be prepared to watch out for your pets starting July 3rd til several days after the 4th. 🇺🇸 Exercise your dog early on the 4th, so they will be tired by the time fireworks start in the evening. A tired dog will be less anxious than a dog who is full of energy and adrenaline. 🇺🇸 If you have more tips, please leave them below in the comments! Tag friends to share this info. Repost! Let’s take some of the burden off shelter workers this holiday, and keep our pets safe! #RescuePetsPSA 1,092 likes · 5 comments · 28 Jun 2026

Don’t wait til the last minute to try to get medications for your dog. Every year vets are bombarded with last minute phone calls begging for medications to help pets cope with fireworks. Prepare early! Call your vet today!! 2,282 likes · 37 comments · 15 Jun 2026

Adopt Pogo! She’s adoptable at the Salem Animal Rescue League in Salem, NH (@salemanimalrescueleague). The 1yr old 38lb German Shepherd/Husky mix that combines “adventure buddy” and cuddle companion into one perfectly floppy package. Want to go for a run? Pogo is already lacing up her imaginary sneakers. Want a lazy day in a home? She’ll happily trot around with her toys like she’s starring in her own adorable little movie. And those ears!? Dog-eared like your favorite well-loved book—familiar, comforting and impossible not to adore. Pogo is still building her confidence, so she can feel nervous around other dogs, especially larger ones. But people? She LOVES people. True to her name, she’s full of happy little bounces, kisses and affectionate moments that make you fall for her instantly. She’s looking for someone willing to give her the patience, kindness and understanding every rescue dog deserves, and in return, she’ll give you loyalty, laughter and endless love. If you’re looking for a sweet dog who wants to be your running partner, toy collector and craft aficionado, cuddle bug, and personal kiss distributor all in one…Pogo might just be your perfect match. Apply at www.sarlnh.org/adoptadog to schedule a meet and greet. 611 likes · 27 comments · 11 Jun 2026
