How do you make something inherently dangerous yet incredibly beautiful as safe as it can be? What is the value of taking risks? What are humans capable of? I'll let the video of Molly's sublime dive (full show in my bio) answer those questions and just say this was the most intense, complicated, and in the end magic project I've ever been involved with. Molly, you're a damn fine human, and it was an absolute pleasure to help you launch into space. Thank you for inviting me into your dream, and being such a solid partner on the whole project. Australian Ice, really? Link in bio to the full film! There’s really ice in Australia? I felt like I was on a massive sandbagging mission at first, but the truth is that there is some pretty cool ice climbing in Australia, and the skiing is neat too! So is the Rock! and Kangaroos! And Australians! A huge thanks to @hughnewall, @Bensanfordmedia and @Dayginprescott for an absolutely stunning trip to a place you won’t believe is in Australia, check the film out, it’s good fun like the place. And also a call to action to all you Aussies: Blue Lake is WAY better than you’re giving it credit for, and you slackers should get your asses up there and climb WAY more cool mixed and dry lines (that don’t hurt the existing rock routes of course)! I often find people don’t give their local scene enough credit, believing that the “real” goods are elsewhere. But if Blue Lake were in Canada it would have lineups on the routes, 100 mixed climbs to do, and rad shots in social media. Seriously, it’s GOOD, and bigger than a lot of the routes I’ve climbed and loved. Look at Haffner in Canada; Blue Lake has at least that amount of potential! There is very little to learn about ice, mixed and alpine climbing that can’t be learned at Blue Lake. I underestimated it too, and brought a lousy sleeping bag thinking, “How cold can it be? It’s Australia!” I froze my toe one night while we were camping, that's how cold it can be! I guess there is the camping component, but still, that’s part of being an “alpinist” so go get it! Thanks to @Arcteryxausnz, @redbullcanada, @blackdiamond and @kiaaustralia for the support to make this whacky adventure happen! 14 Oct 2026

It’s finally live! Ice Climbing Down Under with @realwillgadd & @hughnewall on YouTube now. In July 2025, Will came over for a week, and although plan A was to climb the harder mixed lines that occasionally form at Ben Lomond in Tassie, weather forced the more reliable option: Blue Lake in NSW. Compared to massive routes in Canada, it’s cute by comparison. Still, being one of the world’s best ice climbers, Will managed to find some tricky lines to keep things interesting. I cannot thank @_camerondrew enough for his work on the edit, and @wuckiesounds work on the mix really brought it all together. They’re both wizards, and I’m insanely grateful for their help! Huge thanks to @hughnewall for the inception of the idea and trusting me to capture it all. I’d previously thought about shooting with Will in Canada, but never actually considered bringing him out to Australia. Grateful for @dayginprescott without all his help shooting additional motion angles and stills, we would’ve missed some key moments. Also for sharing a tent in the snow with me when I was sick, poor bugger. This also wouldn’t have been possible without the legends who helped fill gaps with their existing archives: @ads.ventures , @whereswalle , @hughnewall , @spencerfrostfilms , @jeremyfilmsthings , and the crew who shot Will’s archival footage, though unfortunately I don’t know who they are to credit them properly. Massive thanks to @adamdarragh for his quintessential Aussie voice and many re-reads as the edit kept evolving. It seemed fitting that the final climb we see in the film was first soloed by Adam back in the ‘90s, in conditions he described as far more forgiving than the thin, delaminated smear Will enjoyed.
