As you all know, I’ve been MIA for a while - and it’s all for good reason. With the help of @hunkemoller I’ve been able to take some time off work to go back home to Gambella, Ethiopia and donate 10,000 undergarments to women and girls in the Tharpam refugee camps and host community with my nonprofit @balangnyalfoundation. Going back home felt like an out-of-body experience. When you’re in the modeling/entertainment industry, you can sometimes lose yourself and your purpose, and after a while, I forgot what I was doing all of this for. During my time back home, I was reminded of when I myself was in the same position as them. I was once a refugee who didn’t have access to undergarments or to personal care items in general like pads, soaps, and deodorants, among others. But through my work with @balangnyalfoundation, I found my purpose - to advocate and support women and girls in the position I once was. These girls need support. These girls need personal care products. These girls need their stories heard. As models/influencers, we’re in the position where we can use our platforms to advocate for change and make a difference in our local communities and even globally. I encourage each of you to support and advocate for issues you care about and get involved. You’ll be amazed by the change you can create. I’m so honored to be in a position where I can share these girls experiences and stories with you all and be a champion for them and their needs. I had to do some work to rediscover the true meaning of self love all over again and what that means to me. self love and truly accepting who you are has been my motto for years so to be in a headspace where I felt like I was losing those really didn’t feel good.
