We were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor, Cllr Damian Boylan, to CBC this morning. The Lord Mayor addressed the whole school assembly of the Preparatory and Secondary School. The College is proud to be part of this longstanding tradition.

Wellbeing Awareness Month
A sincere thank you to Mr Richie Power for taking the time to visit our 5th and 6th Year students as we kick off Wellbeing Awareness Month at CBC. Richie spoke with great openness and honesty about his experience of a gambling addiction and the impact that it had on his life, particularly his mental health. His story is one that will undoubtedly stay with us for a long time to come. We are very grateful to Richie for sharing such a personal story with us and for the important work that he continues to do in raising awareness and supporting young people.

Dr Harty Cup Campaign
Well done to our Senior Hurling Team, who defeated Our Lady’s Templemore on a scoreline of 0-18 to 0-14 in the Dr Harty Cup at Bansha yesterday afternoon. The win now means that they have qualified for the quarter-final stage in January with a game to spare.

All-Ireland Maths Success
Congratulations to Niall Magabilin, Transition Year, who was one of just 13 pupils to achieve 100% out of almost 19,000 students in the recent All-Ireland Maggie Gough Maths Competition. A fantastic achievement!
Well done to Niall and to his teacher Mr Moynihan.

Rugby Europe U20 Championships
Congratulations to Séadna Forrest, Sixth Year, who has been selected for the Swiss U20 National Rugby Squad and will be competing in the Rugby Europe U20 Championship in Prague from the 8th to the 15th of November. Wishing Séadna the very best of luck from all at CBC.

Second Year students enjoyed their Gaelbhratach event today, 'Halloween Horror', where they watched an Irish language Halloween-themed film in their Gaeilge classes. The Committee did a great job organising this event. We hope everyone has a great break!

ESERO Ireland Discover Space Student Award
Cathal Lyons and Raed Nasser, Sixth Year, presented 'Launching Ireland’s Future: Astronomy for the Leaving Certificate,' a project examining how astronomy could be more effectively promoted within senior cycle education in Ireland. Their project received the ESERO Ireland Discover Space Student Award at SciFest last May. Following this, they were invited to make a presentation at the headquarters of Research Ireland, Dublin, today and network with researchers and other students. They were noted for being excellent public speakers and were encouraged to take this project further in the future.

Dr Harty Cup First Round Result
Well done to our Harty Cup squad on a fantastic performance in Castlelyons this afternoon. The match concluded with a score of 2-22 to CBC and 0-12 to John the Baptist Community School.

Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2027 🔬🧬
Congratulations to the 12 CBC students whose eight projects have been selected for the Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2027, taking place in Dublin from 6 - 9 January.
The successful students are Finn Harnedy (Fifth Year); Matthew Thuillier, Liam Punch, Cillian Ó Ríordáin, Seth Hickey and William Hickey (Fourth Year); Oisín Bosz, Teddy Black and Ewan Twohig (Second Year); and Fionnan Golden, Thomas Power and Ronan Power (First Year).
The boys will represent CBC across the Junior, Intermediate and Senior categories, showcasing their creativity, scientific curiosity and problem-solving skills.
This is a significant achievement, reflecting the hard work, dedication and initiative demonstrated by the students in developing their projects.
Sincere thanks to Ms Vicki Hennessy and Ms Michelle O’Brien for all their support with our young scientists. We wish the students every success as they continue their preparations for the national exhibition in January.

Debating Success
Congratulations to Sam Brogan O'Farrell, Second Year, who was awarded Best Individual Speaker in the final of the recent Matheson Junior Debating National Mace.
Well done to all our Junior debaters who travelled to St Andrew’s College, Dublin to take part in the competition.
Sincere thanks to Ms Ellen O'Shea for her continued support with our Debating Society.
