“It’s not that hard not to sexually assault someone.”

📖PLEASE READ - ANNOUNCEMENT 😭
Why are parents burning out more than ever—despite decades of parenting advice?
And why are so many children struggling with their mental health, even though we have endless tools, books, blogs, and podcasts at our fingertips?
At Nurtured First, we believe the problem isn’t just about screens, or the lasting effects of a pandemic. And it certainly isn’t because today’s parents are trying to break cycles of harsh discipline and embrace gentler, more respectful parenting.
Maybe the crisis we’re facing is rooted in something deeper.
Maybe we’re struggling because we’ve forgotten what it’s like to be a child.
We’ve forgotten what it feels like to cry on the kitchen floor, desperate for compassion.
We’ve forgotten what it’s like to wear a bathing suit without second-guessing our bodies.
We’ve forgotten the wonder of curiosity, the boldness of play, the unshakable confidence we once had.
This book is an invitation to remember.
I’m beyond excited to say this book is set to be published by:

This happened tonight, and I thought I’d share it with you.
I’m still very sick, and wrote this from my daughters bed well she’s sleeping beside me, so I apologize in advance for any mistakes in the post.❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹

This moment was really beautiful, and I wanted to share it. Cycle breaking comes in these tiny moments when we are calm and playful instead of yelling and angry. It doesn’t mean we get it right every time. But, it means we are trying and showing up even when it’s hard. ❤️
Post a ❤️ below if you’ve been here at bedtime!
PS: We cover all of these topics and more inside our parenting little kids course. It’s the perfect course to help you understand your child, your triggers, and learn how to discipline in a way that is effective! You’ll find it in, the link in the bio!

Perhaps one of the most important posts I’ve done recently. I can do more on this topic, sharing the research behind it if you’re interested. But, the key is this: Kids have less playtime than ever before. Even recess times in many schools has decreased. We’re replacing play with extracurriculars, tutoring, homework, and screens. None of these things are “bad”, but if our kids are struggling, we need to ask ourselves when do they play? When do they imagine? When do they make believe? When do they make pretend worlds with blocks or dolls or sticks and rocks? This is the work of childhood, and we’re losing it. We need to bring it back if we want to protect our kids. We must preserve play.❤️

This might be controversial, but I do think it’s an important conversation for us to open up! We can truly see our kids, believe in them, and create the environment to set them up for success — while also setting firm boundaries around hurtful behaviour.
Questions? Thoughts? Let’s talk below.

Sometimes, in a quiet moment with someone you trust, you need to name the concern you have. This is where you can start to make real and lasting change, and show up as the parent you want to be for your child.❤️❤️❤️
