HTFU Crew: Tokyo to Shizuoka Edition
From Tokyo to Shizuoka, this ride took us through parts of Japan we would never have discovered by train or car. The weather was perfect, the views unmatched, and the miles were hard-earned.
In spite of the countless stoplights we encountered exiting Tokyo, it was beautiful and memorable. This 1st of 3 scheduled rides on our journey to finish in Osaka, was definitely one for the books!
And while this ride was epic, we look back at it with heavy hearts, remembering this as the few last moments with Jun D., who suddenly passed on during our ride the very next day. We are grateful for the miles, the laughs, and the views we got to share with him.
Ride on in heaven, Jun! 🕊️

Officially a first time half marathoner!
I am both thankful and humbled by this experience. 😀
Thankful for the health to prepare, to race and to finish on my own two feet. And humbled because I expected more from myself coming into this. I am way off my target time but still recognize this achievement and have so much more respect for this distance.
Now I know what it’s like and what to do better next time - from getting good sleep the evening before, having the pre race meal at the optimal time so I’m not hungry already at gun start, wearing race day shoes a few times before race day to practice how tight they need to be, and also to give myself more time to train to avoid injury which almost ended my race at the 17km mark. These aren’t excuses, they’re lessons learned. I will get to that target soon!
For now- I can’t wait to get back on the…bike tbh, hahahaha!!

Thankful for a meaningful and memorable 2nd Ironman 70.3 in Puerto Princesa! 😀
Our mixed Island Divers relay team made up of @yonggregorio (swim 🏊), myself (bike🚴♂️) and @g_zissou (run🏃🏻♀️) made it to the podium to finish 2nd! 🥈 Grabe ang sarap pala mag podium!🥈Such an amazing reward for our collective preparations and push during the race.
The bike route was beautiful! The roads were pretty good! But those climbs were still painful, even if we now only needed to do it twice, hahahaha! 🤣😜
Stuck to my ride plan and finished so close to my target time. Special thanks for the bike fit Julian Valancia, South Rides for the training rides, mechanical support, and the pressure to perform (and look good)!
The trip wasn’t just about the race, but it was the company that we shared this weekend with that made it even more special. No more negative aura. Lol. 😂 This was gold. 🥇
We were also treated to a bay cruise and dinner with firefly watching! It was a beautiful experience to say the least. The video I shared here doesn’t do justice.
Thanks to our mommyger @car_gregorio for taking care of me, and laughing to all of my jokes. 🤣😀
And thank you to the Songco family for hosting us again. 💙😀
