They’re putting down roots and building businesses, all while raising four kids! Creating a home in East Grand Rapids has provided the Ruud family with the lifestyle they were craving. "Those everyday encounters are what make East feel most like home. There is a real sense that you are part of a community rather than simply living in a neighborhood." While Jason works as president of West Michigan-based S.A. Morman & Co., Kristin drew inspiration from their local scene to create her own outerwear brand, Northern Classics. With the help of a local apparel designer, she brought the collection to life. “Looking back, it feels especially fitting that a business inspired by raising our kids here got its start with the help of someone in our own community," Kristin says. As for their family life, the Ruuds are making sure their children, Bennett, Quinn, Graham, and Ellis, also enjoy the simple, back-to-basics way of life that East Grand Rapids offers, saying, "More time outside means more of the simple magic that makes childhood feel like childhood." 05 Nov 2026
