Meet the 2026–2027 McColl Center Exhibition Fellows!
At McColl Center, we believe that Art Thrives When Artists Do. That means investing in artists - offering them the time and space they need to grow their creative practice.
Now in its third year, the McColl Center Exhibition Fellowship brings together six Charlotte-based artists for a nine-month experience centered on artistic development, mentorship, experimentation, and exchange. Over the months ahead, these artists will deepen their individual practices while working toward a group exhibition curated by Carla Aaron-Lopez @iamkingcarla , opening June 12, 2027.
We’re thrilled to introduce this year’s Exhibition Fellows: Ryan Allen @friedchickensandwich , Shareon Blenman @bharestudio , Nicole Driscoll @nicoledfilms , Karen Ingram @krening , Cashay Johnson @cashay.johnson , and José Urbina @joserurbina_ .
Across disciplines, materials, and perspectives, each artist enters the Fellowship with a practice of their own - and nine months to ask new questions, take risks, build upon their work, and see where the process leads.
Over the coming months, we’ll invite you into that process, sharing more about each Fellow, their work, and what takes shape along the way.
Please join us in welcoming the 2026–2027 Exhibition Fellowship cohort to McColl Center!

Along with the zine, I edited a video piece using Maurice Krafft footage of his work with volcanoes. His video work was memorizing. Music by @moonsidesound

This is a free zine. You can the video link on the last page. Link in bio.

Last week, I watched Fire of Love and discovered Katia and Maurice Krafft. I’ve been obsessed with them, telling everyone about their story. They had such a deep passion for volcanoes and a love for each other.
.
Their story felt similar to the love I have found with my own partner. So I made a zine about that love and passion. I paired my photography with their own words about love and death.
.
Katia and Maurice were incredible artists who documented their research through photography and film. I created a video using their footage, with music by @moonsidesound , that can be found in the zine.
.
This is a free zine, but if you’d like a downloadable copy or any of my other zines, please visit my shop.

I created 20 mini collages piece last week. I needed to get out of my head and just create something. Which one do you like? What draws you into that piece? All the images in this zine are from thrifted images I have found over the years, mixed

I went on a trip to Richmond in the beginning of June and brought my Yashica Samurai half frame camera with me. I have only used it one other time, about a year ago and forgot how to use the focus on the camera. Therefore all my images were out of focus. So after being bummed, I made a zine. Hope you like it.

For May, I taught myself Japanese book binding. I really love the look and will be using it again in the future.

I had a hard time coming up with a zine for April. Sometimes I overthink things, believing they need to be complex to be meaningful, especially with my art.
.
.
April’s zine is a simple design, but it offered a new way to show my photographs. I love the look of matchbooks, and I used that style to create this zine.

March’s zine is an idea I had for a long time. I love taking portraits but always feel weird about selling them. ‘Soft Eraser’ is about the space we take up and what we leave behind.

I was lucky to be selected as one of the artists for @cltshout to design an !con.
.
I used my film photographs to create layered wheat pastings and then peeled them back to reveal the textures hidden underneath.
.
This will be on display until April 19th in front of the Bank of America Building if you want to check it out.

One of my goals this year is to challenge myself to make a zine every month. For February, I created original Polaroid emulsion lifts and learned how to do coptic stitch binding for Almost Everything. I combined etching into plastic with a haiku poem to add a special detail.
