Now seeking our next class of fellows! This full-time, 12-month paid fellowship offers the selected applicants the opportunity to gain experience in land management and community outreach, become familiar with local flora and fauna, and learn the workings of a land trust. Launched in 2022, the 21st Century Conservation Fellowship was established to support increased diversity in the fields of environmental land management and natural areas conservation. Preserve experience will be augmented by experiences with Natural Lands’ departments – Conservation, Finance, Human Resources, Communications and Engagement, and Development. This is a hands-on position with training provided. All applicants interested in bringing their varied lived and learned experiences to the organization are encouraged to apply under the Careers section of our website. It's that oh-so special time of year again...time to leave the leaves! Really, the entire food chain benefits from leaf litter come winter. Fallen leaves provide vital habitat to overwintering insects, small mammals, amphibians, and reptiles. Leaf litter also makes for wonderful nesting material and insulation for our den-dwellers like groundhogs. Then, of course, our larger mammals such as foxes and coyotes still need to hunt, and where are many of their go-to meals hiding out? You guessed it, the leaves! Help a firefly make it to summer. Feed a fox. Do it for the salamanders. Even if you live in a small space, leaf litter can be fastened to containers, window boxes, and raised garden beds with chicken wire. It's just one of those things where every little bit helps. Happy fall, all! P.S. Natural Lands' second annual Fall Festival returns to Stroud's charming barnyard for another afternoon of seasonal fun! Enjoy family-friendly crafts and activities, browse through local vendors, and don't forget to dress up! There will be costume contests for kids, adults, and pets. Hey, folks. We know your love is eternal and all that, but the vitality of what you find out on our preserves is not. Carving trees is akin to inflicting a wound and increases the risk of infection. Pictured here is a beech, a species already facing a blight called Beech Leaf Disease. They need all the help and support they can get right now…certainly not any more stress. Aside from the health of our beautiful trees, memorial benches are sincere, heartfelt donations to the preserve made by the loved ones of those that have passed. They deserve respect. This particular bench was restored not even a month ago. We know we are likely not speaking directly to the culprits and that the vast majority of our visitors are respectful. We simple ask that you help spread the word, and if you see something, say something. Thanks so much, and enjoy this beautiful start to the new season. 24 Sep 2026

Leave the leaves, save the salamanders! This salamander is still just a baby, and will rely on the shelter, protection, and moisture of leaf litter to survive to see spring. Please keep this in mind as the leaves begin to fall, and make a plan to leave the leaves wherever and however you can this year. Save your plastic lids for us, and contribute to a wonderful new mural by local artist Brittany Grala at Crow’s Nest Preserve in Chester County, PA! This project is inspired by the fantastic work of Plastic Shed @plastic_shed , creators of the UK’s largest recycled plastic bottle lid mural. Plastic already sticks around for such a long time…why not recycle it into art? Lids will be collected now through the end of October. They’re simple things anyone and everyone can do with their kids to keep them engaged in the outdoors amidst the chaos of the back-to-school season.
