Today I completed something that had been brewing for over 3 years. Since my first steps away from the debilitating injuries following my accident, I had this feeling that I was still capable of doing the thing that lights me up: trail running - Not only do I want to thank everyone who’s backed me & supported this dream, I want to instil the belief to all those who have a dream. The last 14days has been the busiest running schedule I’ve ever attempted. Starting with the Marine Corps Marathon on Sunday 25/10 in the USA, flying back to be part of the epic King Of The Hill last weekend. Both these races will get the full recap they deserve shortly. But right now I am 3days into the 4day GPT100 (Grampians peaks trail) team stage relay with the Beyond Endurance All Abilities team attempting to be the very first fully adaptive team to traverse the 164km Grampians Peaks Trail, not only that thanks to my tremendously fast teammates Owen Lancelot @bagnotherun and Jonathon Healy @jonathanjhealy from Ireland who both have auto immune conditions that have led to permanent stomas, we are in a position to possibly take out the class because we’ve been cracking in harder each day. Day 1 50km 4th overall Day 2 37km 3rd overall Day 3 44km 2nd overall Day 4 32km ???? GPT 100 Miler Stage Race Relay - Day 1 49.5km total & 1900m gain I kicked off the morning & what a beauty 15.5km, 554m gain @bagontherun_ took the brunt of it with 20km & 1100m gain @mickmarshall_ closed out the day for us, big finish 🎯 We finish today in 4th place in the teams relay. We’ve arrived at King Of The Hill in Pyalong, Victoria, a backyard ultra type setup with a difference. A tough 4.2km loop with approx. 300metres of elevation in each loop, every hour on the hour the gun goes off and we keep going until one remains. 300 warriors will start. Having only landed back in the country 3days ago from our record breaking run in WASHINGTON DC of course I’m still feeling the effects of the race itself, jet lag etc. I’m being asked how many laps I can do - and my answer is the same as before I went away, I don’t know, but what I do know is that I’m going to give it a red hot crack. In the recent marathon we nailed the nutrition and this one is another level of learning about that and we have a plan. As for how many laps? I’d prefer to use this as another peak over the fence with my pain management and utilising the toolbox that’s been accumulated over the years to stay curious and weave through the pain cave one step at a time. I’m learning the more people that say you’re nuts, I reckon the more you should do that thing.
