I left behind a familiar life to pursue something I genuinely couldn’t stop dreaming about. I only share a fraction of what I experience online. Run toward the light with everything in you, embrace the fullness of life, and never look back. This life is yours to create, paint it as you will:) When I told everyone that I was going to travel the world solo at 19, no one believed that I could do it or that it was even possible. I saved every penny I could and chose to embrace the unknown. I left behind every ounce of comfort to chase experiences. I had no idea how life would unfold. I had lost a close friend to suicide the fall before I left for my first solo trip. Around that same time, I found out about my high risk for blindness. I realized how fleeting life is and decided to pursue it with every ounce of courage I had. Every person that I’ve met throughout this journey has taught me something about life. I feel like I’ve lived a hundred lifetimes in these past 5 years of traveling the world. My eyes have seen so much and experienced so much. I chose to paint my canvas a lot differently than most. I gave up everything to pursue a life that most would never understand why I chose to do so. I was called “weird,” “crazy,” “the strange girl”… and 5 years later, it turned out to be the best decision I ever made. Sometimes you have to be a little crazy to chase the life you dream of, because the life you want will often require you to be different from everyone else. Never be afraid to be that person. I decided to share my story online, and with one post, my social media blew up which is funny because I was never a fan of social media in the slightest. The fakeness of it all wasn’t ever a draw for me. I wanted to show the genuine connections I had made with people around the world. Thank you to every person that I’ve met along this crazy adventure. I have a tattoo that says “缘分” (yuánfèn). It’s the idea that people cross paths for a reason, even if they are strangers and only share a small moment together. It can be something as simple as sitting next to someone on a train, or meeting briefly while traveling. The connection doesn’t need to become a friendship or last long for it to feel meaningful.
