30 years of @matchboxtwenty! ❤️‍🔥 And three decades later, we are still belting out “3AM.” I’ll never forget the first time I heard this song. It grabbed me immediately, and from that moment on, I had their debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You, on endless repeat. Decades later, it’s still one of those rare, perfect albums I can listen to front to back without skipping a single track. 💿✨ Released in 1996, as alternative rock was entering a new era, Yourself or Someone Like You helped usher in a wave of melodic, emotionally charged rock that defined the sound of the late ’90s. Before the sold-out tours, massive hits, and millions of records sold (now diamond status!), there was a song @robthomas wrote as a teenager while his mother was battling cancer. What sounded like a classic relationship song was actually something far more personal. “3AM” helped introduce the world to @matchboxtwenty and became one of the defining anthems of ’90s alternative rock. As the band celebrates 30 years and continues to reach new generations of fans, I’m taking you back to where it all began.
