MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW that international baseball is like the Wild West!
There is no formal union for players, or for their representatives. Players are usually left to their own devices to negotiate their contracts, their salaries, incentives, and anything else that may be in their contract. For the most part, they are not well informed on comparable current salary bases, nor are they usually well equipped to negotiate on their own behalf, especially against an employer who may hold the negotiation against them.
To date, international players are still mostly unrepresented. Some of them are even told that if they hire an agent they run the risk of damaging their current relationship with their team. A lot of these players are making minimum salaries that their families rely on, so they don’t want to rock any boats.
The reality is that hiring an agent will guarantee this:
✔️getting paid according to the correct salary base (since we know what our other players are making)
✔️ A better relationship with your team (Since agents can be a sounding board between the team and the player so that the relationship remains professional and friendly on all levels.)
Many agents that rep players in MLB and Minor Leagues don’t like to negotiate international contracts since the pay structure is so different and the pains of navigating different languages and cultures is not worth their time. Many start “ghosting” their former clients after those clients transfer to international professional ball from MLB or MiLB.
I started my agency @leonasports with this exact ball player in mind, and I have structured a great part of my business to not only help them abroad, but to help them perhaps re-structure their career & future.
If you are interested on embarking on a new career, you are a professional player needing advice or are considering international play, let me teach you all about international baseball.

I am spilling the tea! ALL OF IT!
For those of you that are new to my account, I became a certified MLB player agent with my own sports agency a few years ago- and way after 50 years of age.
What drew me to the industry wasn’t a love of baseball- it actually bored me (now I will kill you if you speak during a game), but what drew me back then was what I saw as a lack of taking care of “our own”, the Latino.
Mind you, I was a semi-retired mom from the valley, so how did I get from there to here? Spoiler alert: I had to kill quite a few dragons.
But moms can slay.
Now, I am embarking on yet another point in my life where I’m sick of things, so I guess it’s going to be up to me to straighten some things out.
In the next few months I plan to teach you all I know about:
1. The best way to become a professional baseball player.
2. How to get colleges to recruit you and what your parents should know.
3. How to make it to the show if you are a professional player abroad.
4. How to become an agent yourself.
5. If you are a woman, how to master the art of being a female sports agent in a man’s world.
6. What the top three things every high school player should know about getting drafted.
7. How the business end of baseball can get in a player’s way, and how not to let that happen.
8. How you can make more money than Boras (just kidding) but pretty good dough by repping players internationally.
9. How baseball agents have been “gate-keeping” since the dawn of time in such a way that it’s near impossible to make it in the industry if you are not connected.
10. What every player needs to know about unscrupulous agents and what every agent needs to know about making it without selling your soul.
I’m not reinventing the wheel here, but I am setting some things on fire. 🔥

A veces las mejores oportunidades se dan de las formas más sencillas !!!

Sydney, I represent athletes for a living.
Getting here took decades learning how to build a table where women weren’t even allowed in the room.
So yes, I have something to say.
You own a stake in Novig. A woman taking ownership in the business of sports…that’s a story worth telling.
A generation of girls watching you needed to see that story. Girls whose mothers and ancestors fought desperately to open doors for them, and break the stigma that we only belong in certain rooms in a certain way.
You have every right to choose your approach. I also have every right to wish you and Novig had used that attention differently. Not just for the women, but for the men you ad is targeting.
Show the women training. Competing. Negotiating contracts. Building businesses. Making decisions that shape careers.
That matters to me because I want girls to see the possibilities.
On the field.
In the front office.
At the negotiating table.
I worked hard to build my place in this industry. I want the next girl watching to recognize a place for herself.
Sydney, you have an ownership stake in a sports company.
Show THAT.

@yasielpuig breaks Canadian baseball record! 🇨🇦
26 Aug 2026
I read today’s New York Times investigation about the Cuban Mafia in Quintana Roo differently than most people will… because one of the people they trafficked is my client, Yasiel Puig.
I know what happened before America ever knew his name.
He was 21 years old.
He was taken out of Cuba and eventually held in Mexico while money was demanded for his release.
And there is one part of this story that has always stayed with me.
His family was threatened that they would cut off Yasiel’s hand and send it to his mother.
His hand.
Imagine being 21 years old and knowing that the people holding you understand exactly what your hand represents. Your career. Your future. Your one opportunity to change your family’s life.
Years later, federal investigations would expose the extraordinary violence surrounding the organization and the trafficking operation that moved people from Cuba through Mexico.
Today’s New York Times investigation (link in my story) describes migrants held captive, tortured and extorted. Families threatened with the deaths of their loved ones. Women forced into strip clubs. Approximately 25 people who died during the voyages.
And somewhere inside that enormous story is a 21-year-old baseball player named Yasiel Puig.
America met him afterward.
We met the arm from right field.
The bat flips.
The smile.
The mistakes.
The headlines.
The “Wild Horse.”
“The dick”- per @jeffpassan
We formed opinions about the man without knowing much about what happened to the young man before he ever stepped onto a Major League Baseball field.
None of this means Yasiel has never made mistakes. He has. But human beings don’t begin on the day they become famous.
Trauma doesn’t disappear because someone signs a $42 million contract.
And surviving something terrible doesn’t always produce the perfectly behaved survivor people expect.
I’ve represented Yasiel for years. I’ve seen him celebrated, criticized, misunderstood and reduced to a headline more times than I can count.
Today, a little more of the story is finally being told.
And maybe it’s time we stopped asking only who Yasiel Puig became in America, and started understanding what happened to him before he got here

Elite seasons aren’t built on headlines. They’re built on consistency.
Yasiel Puig currently sits:
⚾️ 1st in Home Runs (13)
⚾️ 3rd in Batting Average (.410) — just .003 behind the league leader
⚾️ T-4th in RBI (36)
After another dominant night at the plate yesterday, the Triple Crown conversation isn’t speculation…it’s earned.
There are still games to play and plenty of work ahead, but he’s put himself in position. Now it’s about finishing.
Proud to watch him continue proving that preparation and opportunity are a powerful combination. @yasielpuig

I have the honor of representing @kelsie_whitmore. Earlier this year, I sat down with her with a blue print of several roads that we could take next in her career. Having a solid sense of international baseball, and understanding the changing social climates, I recommended that she give a chance to playing professionally in Mexico.
Enjoying good relationships with several teams, I realized the team that would be the best fit would be @elaguilabeisbol , since the ownership family legacy is deeply rooted in a lot of “firsts”. After several nail biting weeks, I received the chance to take Kelsie to be the first woman in history to ever try out for a spot in the Mexican Baseball League.
What happens next is up to Kelsie, El Aguila and the League, but one thing is certain, this morning little girls all over the world woke up to know there can be a different future…. and a lot of girl-dads just realized they may be able to have their kid make it in baseball after all. #history #baseball #latinaagent

2026 marks the first fully professional season of the Canadian Baseball League.
We structured a landmark deal that positions @yasielpuig for impact beyond the field, while keeping performance at the center.
This is what strategic placement looks like at the start of a league’s professional era. 🇨🇦🍁
