Back in 2017, I was challenged to shoot a photo series by telling a complete story using only 9 images - no text or audio. With the help of my husband @kevinmalejandro and son @kadenalejandro_ (when he was still small 🥺), here is what I came up with… I’m thinking to do a new one. Meet our UBER multi-talented EDITOR - JOHN GERONILLA. @johngeronilla John is helping the story breathe… @thehit.film is so grateful to have him on board… __________________________________ John Geronilla is an LA based editor and actor originally from Bacolod City, Philippines. He started off his career as an editor in Warner Bros. Worldwide TV Marketing and has since shifted to scripted where he was most recently the assistant editor on RJ Decker, Watson, and Bodkin. In between rendering outputs and auditions, John dances salsa, tinkers on vintage computers, and develops 35mm film in his bathroom. John’s passions in filmmaking has led him to put on multiple hats and he is currently developing his own film projects. 29 Oct 2026

Having collaborated with Leslie Alejandro on numerous projects, Denise Santos has become an integral part of Alejandro’s creative process. With an intuitive understanding of her visual storytelling, Denise transforms imagery into evocative soundscapes that deepen the emotional resonance of each scene, drawing audiences into the heart of the story and allowing them to feel every moment with greater intimacy and depth. __________________________________ Denise Santos is a Filipina composer based in Los Angeles, known for her evocative and emotionally rich scores across film and television. A two-time Emmy nominee, she won the 2021 News & Documentary Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition for Primates (PBS/BBC). Her impressive body of work includes Netflix’s Island of the Sea Wolves and I Love Filipino, BBC America’s Eden: Untamed Planet, and the feature film Parallel. Formerly an in-house composer at Hans Zimmer and Sony/ATV’s Bleeding Fingers Music, Denise brings a distinctive musical voice shaped by classical, orchestral, alternative, and world music influences. She is also a recipient of the prestigious ASCAP Foundation Michelle & Dean Kay Award. With a deep passion for storytelling, Denise creates immersive, emotionally resonant soundscapes that elevate narratives and bring audiences closer to the heart of each story. 15 Oct 2026

Please meet our COSTUME and WARDROBE Designer, the incomparable, Robiat Balogun. Robi is our go-to creative when it comes to helping actors fully embody their characters. She has an intuitive understanding of storytelling and a unique ability to translate a character’s personality, emotions, and lived experiences into their visual identity. Robiat Balogun is a Nigerian-born, California-based wardrobe stylist, costume designer, and makeup artist with over a decade of experience in fashion and entertainment. Her work spans film, television, commercial campaigns, celebrity styling, and editorial fashion. She has contributed to projects involving major brands, including Netflix, Disney, Target, and Walmart, and has styled notable talent such as Lesley-Ann Brandt. Robiat has also collaborated with Alejandro Films on two previous film productions, bringing her expertise in wardrobe styling, costume design, and makeup artistry to help bring characters and stories to life. Known for her creativity, versatility, and keen attention to detail, she seamlessly blends fashion, beauty, and storytelling to create compelling visual experiences. 14 Oct 2026

Rounding out our cast, we had the pleasure and honor to have Jessica Lu step into the role of THE COUNSELOR. We originally imagined the character with a more quirky sensibility, but Jessica brought something we didn’t know we needed - a warmth and sincerity that grounded the role. Compassionate with a calming presence that puts people at ease, THE COUNSELOR’s off kilter practices gently (and effectively) guides the grief group toward confronting the emotions they would rather avoid… including Charles. __________________________________ Jessica Lu is an actress, writer, and producer best known for her breakout role as Ming Huang on MTV’s acclaimed comedy series Awkward. She later starred as tech visionary Alexis Barrett opposite Sarah Shahi and Dennis Haysbert on NBC’s Reverie and appeared as Joy Chen on CBS’s God Friended Me. Her additional credits include American Horror Story: Hotel, Here and Now, Red Band Society, Two and a Half Men, About Last Night, and Line of Duty. Lu’s work on Reverie drew particular critical attention: IndieWire described her as a “promising scene stealer,” while TVLine gave her an honorable mention for Performer of the Week for her performance in the season finale. We had the absolute honor to have the talented, Arnell Powell come on board THE HIT. Please meet our UNKNOWN MAN/JIM. The UNKNOWN MAN is a well-meaning member of the community center who mistakes Charles’ distress for grief and offers a few unsolicited words of encouragement, unwittingly forcing the hardened killer to confront feelings he’d rather ignore. ___________________________________ Arnell Powell is a veteran film, television, and stage actor whose screen credits span more than three decades. He is recognizable as Charles Sinclair (Mr. Sinclair) in Netflix’s Stranger Things, and has appeared in acclaimed series including Snowfall, Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, Greenleaf, Bosch, The Shield, NCIS, and 9-1-1: Lone Star. His film work includes the Academy Award-nominated Hidden Figures, The Conjuring, and Lucy in the Sky, as well as 2026’s Crime 101. Powell also has an extensive theater background, including Off-Broadway work with the Classical Theatre of Harlem, the national tour of Bring in ’da Noise, Bring in ’da Funk, and productions at the Guthrie Theater and Kirk Douglas Theatre. 06 Oct 2026

We had the absolute privilege to have @aimeegarcia4realz come on board and play our EVELYN. Evelyn is a grieving parent whose heartfelt remembrance of her child sets the emotional tone of the support group and leaves Charles increasingly uncomfortable with the vulnerability surrounding him. ___________________________________ Aimee Garcia is an award-winning actress, writer, and producer best known for her role as forensic scientist Ella Lopez on Netflix’s Lucifer and as Jamie Batista on Showtime’s Dexter. Her television credits also include George Lopez, Vegas, Trauma, Rush Hour, and Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., while her film work includes RoboCop and El Chicano. Garcia received an ALMA Award for Special Achievement in Television for Dexter, shared with castmates Lauren Vélez and David Zayas. She was also part of the Dexter ensemble nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, and earned both ALMA and Imagen Award nominations for her performance on George Lopez. 05 Oct 2026

Meet our ADAM played by the legend himself, @derek_basco. ADAM is a disheveled, deeply grieving father carrying the loss of his young son. Beneath the sadness is an unexpected warmth, humor, and appreciation for life’s smallest pleasures that gradually disarms Charles. __________________________________ Derek Basco is a Filipino-American actor, producer, director, and writer with a career spanning more than three decades. His recent work includes a recurring role as Detective Keno on Paramount+’s Mayor of Kingstown, as well as appearances in Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Criminal Minds. His film credits include The First Purge, This Is 40, Six Days Seven Nights, and the landmark Filipino-American feature The Debut. Controlled to a fault, Charles has made a career out of keeping people at a distance, until his latest target awakens something in him he thought was long dead. __________________________________ Kevin Alejandro is an award-winning actor, director, and producer whose extensive television career includes starring roles in Netflix’s Lucifer, HBO’s True Blood, TNT’s Southland, The CW’s Arrow, and CBS’s Fire Country. He also voices Jayce in Netflix’s acclaimed animated series Arcane. Alejandro won the Imagen Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his performance in Southland and received another Imagen nomination for True Blood. …and that’s a wrap! 🎬 We have been living in challenging times. Our industry has changed significantly, requiring us, as creatives, to do more than just adapt. We need to find ways to shape our own future. We continue to seek opportunities, navigating between obstacles and our aspirations, without a clear path to ensure our sustainability in the entertainment world. This is how THE HIT was created. Uncertain when we’d get our next creative jobs, we decided we had to make one. I wrote a script, shared it with my team of talented creatives, and with a tight budget and a lot of heart, we got to work. THE HIT is dedicated to every single person who contributed their time on and off set. Not only were many hats worn, each person went above and beyond what was assigned to them. We always strive to create an environment where everyone feels supported, safe, and heard, and although everyone showed up to set with the highest form of professionalism, the work didn’t feel like work. It felt like a Family Gathering. It was a dream. We look forward to sharing this one with you.
