I never know how to introduce myself. Tomorrow, REBIRTH is out. Everywhere. It didn’t start in a studio — it started on a couch, two guitars, one small idea with no words yet. From there it needed a sound (found by hand, string by string), then a space to grow in, then a band to carry it off the screen and into a room, then lights, then a stage. From a couch to Petit Campus. From one idea to ten songs. I made all 10 songs on REBIRTH completely alone. Here’s what that actually looked like. 👇 I run a pro studio. I’ve recorded full bands and drum kits for other artists here. But for REBIRTH, no one else was behind the board. 🎛️ I set up every session myself: mics, levels, routing. Then I hit record and stop from the Logic Pro Remote app on my phone, so I could get back to playing. Engineer, producer, artist. Sometimes all in one take. 😅 Some songs took hours. Others took much longer. All of them started with the music first. 10 songs. 1 engineer. 0 shortcuts. This one piano riff became “Heartbeat,” my favourite song on the whole album 🎹 Every song on REBIRTH started the same way: music first, words after. Heartbeat began as one small piano idea before I moved it to synth and built it out piece by piece in the box. That part near the end still gives me chills every single time I play it back. Montreal synth-pop, straight from the studio floor. 11 days until REBIRTH. 🖤 Ten songs. One studio in Montreal. And one very unglamorous secret: it all started with a chord progression and a note on my iPhone. The music came first. I’d build the track, sit inside it, and let it tell me what it was about. Then the lyrics went into my Notes app, one messy line at a time, until the song finally said what I couldn’t say out loud. “Til the End of the Night” was the one that cracked it open. I played that progression on repeat until the words finally showed up. 🌙 I’ve been living with these songs for a long time. In 11 days, they’re yours. There is always that one person in every crew whose music taste is unapologetically frozen in the 1980s—the one who believes modern pop is missing analog warmth, heavy drum fills, and a bit of nocturnal drama. Nobody tells you the hardest part of writing a song is the stretch when it has no words yet. You love the groove. You have nothing to say over it. Every song on REBIRTH started right there, with the music first: a beat on the Maschine, a synth line, and nothing to sing. That’s my songwriting process. I loop it, I listen, and I wait until it tells me what it’s about. Then the words show up. You can hear it happen in the second half of this clip.
