One year ago today, on Sunday, June 15, 2025, Noah & I were married at Harvard’s Harry Elkins Widener Memorial Library.
It was the first wedding ever held there. And as far as we know, it may be the last!
This was also *our* first wedding in a set of two (2 for the price of 5, as I like to joke to Noah, who does not find that joke quite as funny). Over the course of the summer of 2025, our weddings would span four religions (Judaism, Balinese Hinduism & New Age spirituality, with bits of Christianity sprinkled in), three ceremonies and two locations … oh so conveniently located on opposite sides of the globe.
But I digress.
May it please the court, a word about my husband. (My husband!!)
The divine matchmaker certainly took her sweet time introducing me to @professornoahfeldman (I was 39 when I met him!) but he’s the definition of WORTH THE WAIT.
He is the most integrous (yes, that's a word), brilliant, generous, loving, creative, civic-minded human being I have ever met. He’s conscientious, honest, and dapper AF. He jokes he has an addictive personality, but the only addiction I’ve seen is to books, and also taking on more responsibility and projects than seems healthy or sane.
His spirituality is not just surface level, but the kind of connection to the divine that started in early childhood and became more mystical in his middle adulthood. He is the kind of person who shows up at PRECISELY the minute he is meant to, every time.
He is a walking wikipedia, AI before AI, there is NOTHING this man doesn’t know something (or a lot) about, and several subjects he is one of a handful of humans who knows the most in the world, which, let me tell you, is a truly astounding experience to be around. I respect the s**t out of him. He leaves every human he meets better than he found them, through his strategy, his mentoring & his belief in them.
One of my goals in life and in our marriage is to get him to relax, have fun, enjoy his life and his *many* accomplishments, and stop being so damn hard on himself. He deserves happiness, joy, beauty & love.
He is, as my girl friends like to say - SMOAT: Super Mensch of All Time.
And he is also my husband. 🔥❤️

Having already had an unreasonably fortunate life, I didn’t expect to find new love in my 50s. My gratitude to the powers that be in the universe is unending for sending me just that in the form of the one and only @juliaallison .
Julia is all the things, as I believe the expression goes. She is intellectually brilliant, magnetically attractive, beautiful inside and out, and somehow combines a profoundly varied set of life experiences with a core of joyful innocence that is unmatched in my life.
We met almost six years ago and were married exactly one year ago, on June 15, 2025, in one of my favorite places on earth, the Harry Elkins Widener Memorial Library at Harvard.
It should probably not have surprised me, but Julia has since developed a close personal relationship with the shade of Harry himself, sadly neglected in the midst of the temple of learning that his mother built in his memory after his tragic loss on the Titanic.
Before we married, Julia also joined Judaism, a momentous undertaking eased for her by her pure faith in the Supreme Unity of being and her love of all the angels and heavenly hosts that can fit into an infinite cosmos.
In fact, during her study process, Julia asked me if the Jews believed in angels. I answered, with what I can only describe as glee, “Honey, we invented angels!”
It’s a good thing we did, because Julia is an angel to me. She has transformed my life and taught me to experience deeper love for the people who matter most to me and the life experiences that I hold closest.
I don’t know what I did in a previous life to earn the merit of her love and companionship, but it must have been something pretty cool.
Our anniversary is a sacred holiday to me.
Happy Anniversary, my love!

When you have so much to say, and no words to say it … hand it over to Taylor:
Ladies and gentlemen, will you please
stand?
With every [media] scar on my hand
I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover
My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue
All's well that ends well to end up with you
Swear to be overdramatic and true to my … fiancé!!!
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
He’s a really, really good man. And I’m grateful every single day for this (hard earned) love.

PROUD HUSBAND PLUG:
Next Thursday, November 12, my wife, @juliaallison, is teaching a workshop at Harvard Kennedy School on a question that matters whether you’re launching a startup, pursuing a career in public service, building an audience, or simply trying to make an impact: How do you tell your story so that the world understands who you are and what you have to offer?
Julia has spent more than two decades thinking about this question, first as a journalist and one of the earliest social media creators, and later as an adviser to entrepreneurs, scientists, and academics (including me!) building their public identities.
Now she’s a Fellow at Harvard’s Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy, researching the future of influence.
Her workshop, “What Do You Want to Be Known For? Authoring Your Public Identity with the Press, Social Media and AI,” will help participants understand how others perceive them, develop a compelling personal narrative, and take practical steps to shape their public identity.
📍 Harvard Kennedy School
📅 Thursday, November 12
🎓 Open to Harvard ID holders only
🍽️ Dinner and dessert provided
Space is limited! Applications close Monday, November 9 at 10 PM.

Happy Halloween from the Bohemian Embassy 🎃

Want to impress your friends with a more ... niche ... Halloween costume? Try the “Professor Noah Feldman,” complete with mala beads, oxford shirt, a tie and a sense of unshakable confidence born of being a genius since the age of 6.
Or you could dress up as his wife (me! Hi!), a “Type A Bohemian,” a truly split personality - one part hippie Burner, one part stressed out list-making perfectionist. Don’t forget the sage and the intention setting!!
🎃🧙♀️🪄🎃
Plot twist: Noah and I still don’t have costumes. What should we be?

WIFE TAKEOVER!
This is my husband, Noah. He loves his jobs (all 37 of them), gets completely consumed by writing books (his eleventh comes out next June!), and has *extremely* specific opinions about peak versus notch lapels.
He would never make this video. Unfortunately for him, he married a former influencer, and gave her his Instagram password. 😉 heheh
Enjoy the lighter side of this Very, Very Serious Academic.
Love,
@JuliaAllison, his wife

The Bohemian Embassy Weddings Book I, Chapter VI: The Officiant’s Sermon - Senator Cory Booker, the Rainbow Covenant & Love’s Alchemical Fire
(Shortened into clips for those with limited attention spans!)
♥️
Senator @corybooker, a close friend of Noah’s since they studied together in Oxford as Rhodes Scholars thirty years ago, officiated the Harvard Widener Library wedding of @juliaallison & @professornoahfeldman, assisted by Rabbi Jessica Kate Meyer, an accomplished cantor who presided over the Jewish component of the ceremony.
“Cory knows a tremendous amount of Torah - and he is also a bit of a bohemian at heart,” Noah explains. “Cory’s speech-sermon was pure poetic genius. Julia’s middle name is Rainbow, and Cory managed to connect God’s rainbow covenant with Noah, James Baldwin’s interpretation of the rainbow sign in The Fire Next Time, and Cory’s own idea of alchemical fire as the essence of love that transmutes and creates. There are 535 people in the House and the Senate, and not one of the others could have conceived or delivered it.”

The Bohemian Embassy Weddings
Book I: The Harvard Library Wedding Album ♥️
It’s not an exaggeration to say that I had been dreaming about my wedding for 30 years. (The benefit of waiting a very, very long time to get married, as I did.)
But I never knew what said nuptials would look like, outside of a few elements: a truly enormous gown (check!), a classically beautiful location (check!), a reception that had a sweet backyard-wedding-at-home feel to it (check!)
I also wanted a wildly colorful, maximalist, syncretic, Burning Man sort of fête! After fruitlessly trying to fit it all into one experience, @professornoahfeldman & I opted for divide & conquer.
So, over nearly 3 years, while also getting my master’s degree (a combo I do not recommend!!), I planned two weddings: a tiny, formal ceremony at home for us & our closest friends & family, then, six weeks later, a five-day, fully Bohemian celebration for 140 friends in Bali.
On June 15, 2025, we became the first couple ever (!) to be married in Harvard’s Harry Elkins Widener Memorial Library in its 110-year history. Of course, it’s a bit on the nose for a Harvard professor to get married in Harvard’s library, but I liked that. Sapiosexual romance! 😘
The vision was dark academia meets classic “Father of the Bride” vibes: the latter at the backyard reception at our home, The Bohemian Embassy, where I wore my mother’s 1978 wedding gown, unaltered in any way. 🥹For the library ceremony, I chose an ivory satin gown, customized by Atelier by Professor Jimmy Choo, with a 10-foot train & 13.5-foot veil.
Senator Cory Booker, Noah’s close friend since their days as Rhodes Scholars at Oxford 30 years ago, officiated, assisted by Rabbi Jessica Kate Meyer. Cory’s speech-sermon was pure poetic genius. My middle name is Rainbow, and he connected God’s rainbow covenant with Noah, James Baldwin’s interpretation of the rainbow sign in The Fire Next Time, and his own idea of alchemical fire as the essence of love: that which transmutes and creates.
The day was so sweet, so intimate. Just magic. (Featured in Town & Country, online now, in print this fall.)

Book I, Ch. V: The Ceremony
♥️ (written by @professornoahfeldman)
I was raised in the Modern Orthodox Jewish tradition. To say so, while sociologically accurate and informational, does not fully capture the internal aspects of my religious experience, which were framed from the start in terms of knowledge, wisdom, and laws. Its inward spiritual character developed almost backward from the rationality with which it had all begun.
I say so because it helps explain why, for me, our ritual under the chuppah had to resonate with the classic, traditional Jewish wedding that I was raised to imagine as the correct form of the practice for me specifically as a Jew.
The Judaism to which Julia has been deeply drawn, and in which I have met her and been expanded by her, is deeply infused by Kabbalah. Kabbalah is a very broad term that can refer to many different kinds of Jewish mysticism in many eras. Whenever one wishes to say “the Kabbalah teaches,” one can do so with respect to a particular teaching and know that one is telling the truth, but one cannot say “the Kabbalah believes.” What can be said is that Kabbalah is far-reaching, open-source, transformational, and more than a little visionary, often radically so.
What I sat down to do in crafting our ceremony was to honor every component of the traditional ritual by inclusion. The blessings, sung beautifully by our rabbi, Jessica Kate Meyer, were precisely the traditional blessings, dating back at least a couple of thousand years. Interspersed among them were English renditions. I would not call them translations, nor would I call them full commentaries. I wrote them from scratch while also crafting brief English vows to correspond to the components of the traditional Jewish ceremony, without in any way imitating it.
(Essay & blessings continued in next slides!)

The Bohemian Embassy Weddings
Book I, Ch. IV: The Gown
♥️
There are very few moments left in modern life when an ordinary person gets to dress ceremonially (too few, IMO), to wear something gloriously impractical because the occasion calls for it. A fifteen-foot train has no utility! But ritual has never been concerned with utility.
Of course, a wedding is a special kind of transformational ritual: ceremony that holds a rite of passage. Anthropologist Arnold van Gennep described these rites in three parts: separation, a liminal period in between, then incorporation into a new self. Across cultures, ceremonial dress makes that inner change visible.
For me, after 44 unmarried years, this was a BIG transformation. Big big. (The first line of BOTH my wedding speeches was, “They said it couldn’t be done.” That’s how big my commitment issues were!) So I went big-big with my gown.
It took almost a year to find. I wanted the archetypal ball gown, enormous & timeless, grand enough for Widener’s marble & monumental scale. I searched Chicago, Boston, LA & New York before finding @theatelierstudioofficial (by Jimmy Choo) at @bridalreflectionsny. I loved the voluminous satin skirt & 15ft train, but simplified the bodice: strapless, with detachable off-the-shoulder sleeves for the ceremony. I designed a custom veil & added elbow-length opera gloves by @cornelia_james.
The finished concoction was so big-big that I couldn’t do much without help. My bridesmaids had to arrange me inside the gown, carry the train & eventually unleash me from its satin confines. Between the corset, heat, nerves & sheer weight, I was so worried about fainting that I brought smelling salts. (Which I actually used!)
But all of that was a feature, not a bug. The more unlike ordinary life this day became, the more meaning it held. Even needing other women, sisters I have loved for years, to support me felt symbolic: we do not cross the great thresholds of life alone.
The gown changed how I felt: I felt like a BRIDE. And it kept bringing me back to what I *most* wanted to remember: “This is a wild & sacred day that will never come again.”
♥️
