Big one this post! My first short film, over two years in the making. I don’t think I’ve ever spent more time or effort on a project. I poured my heart and soul into it, and I’m really proud of what we’ve made. I can’t thank the lead characters enough, Dalia, Junior and Richy. Thank you for letting me into your world, your homes, and for inspiring me to make this film about you & Pico. Massive thanks to the whole team who helped pull this together, especially my editor @gregjennings 🙏 And finally, thank you to all the dancers of Picolandia! 🧡 FULL FILM IN BIO! - Taller the Hat, Closer to Heaven - a short story about first love, finding family and cultivating community through dance. Every month, thousands of people attend bailes (dances) at Pico Rivera Sports Arena in Los Angeles. Built in 1979 for charrería (rodeos), it’s become the city’s home for dancing to Norteño and banda music. Had the pleasure of shooting @lancey for the cover of @schonmagazine few months back. I’ve had this reference of a cast of some ones face for years and have been waiting for the right opportunity to creat one with an artist who’s face would be perfect for it. Lancey has that face. I wanted the shoot to tip into the surreal, so I worked closely with the incredible @paigecolemakeup She cast Lancy’s face to create the mask, then brought in her prosthetics to help give the weird and surreal edge Big credit to Lancy, because the casting is no joke. You sit completely still while you’re covered in plaster of Paris. Your eyes and mouth are sealed over, and you breathe through tiny holes while it sets around you. No sight, no movement, for nearly an hour. Had the pleasure of shooting the @arsenal x @bazanetti_ jewellery collection recently. Shot in and around a game at the Emirates Stadium @joebaz creative direction was a pleasure to work with, gaining access to the stadium and shooting with really fans is what I love. Decide to print my portfolio as a broad sheet newspaper for my agent @attrayler.co Very common now just to have an iPad for your portfolio but kinda like the old print / physical nature of a printed portfolio, I don’t consider my work as precious hence the use of a less permanent and low key print choice or a newspaper. But I do like to see I’m images big, hence the choice of a broad sheet. I shoot a lot so will be making probably a new set of these every year. I also like the idea of gift giving, so if the person my agent or I’m showing it to really loves it they can take it and keep it.
