A year ago, Jeremy Bloom challenged us to rethink one of sports’ biggest questions:
💡What if AI could make refereering and judging more fair and objective?
At the time, it was a bold idea.
Today, it’s becoming reality.
Jeremy’s vision with Owl AI has expanded beyond the X Games into other sports. @sportsbusinessjournal ranked Owl AI among the 10 Most Innovative Sports Tech Companies in 2026.
And that’s the magic of TEDSports:
A great idea doesn’t stay on the stage.
It gets tested.
It gets challenged.
It gets built and keeps getting better.
A year later, we’re looking back at Jeremy’s talk and watching the future he imagined take shape..
From the TEDSports stage to the playing field!

You train your whole life for a moment—and one blown call takes it away. Every athlete has lived it. Every fan has screamed at their screen.
Today, we’re publicly launching Owl.ai —an AI platform built to make sure that never happens again.
I founded this company with one goal: to remove human error and bias from judged and refereed sports—Athletes and fans deserve the correct call, 100% of the time.
At X Games, we’ve trained our model to understand every rule, every scoring framework, and what great style actually looks like. It’s been a fun and energizing challenge. It’s trained in thousands of hours of video, analyzes every run, every trick, every landing, every grab. It’s becoming a superhuman judge—built not to replace humans, but to sit alongside them and fix mistakes before they happen.
We tested it at Aspen X Games this winter, and among many things, it accurately predicted gold, silver, and bronze—just by watching practice. This weekend, it’s being used in many more ways at Summer X Games in Salt Lake City.
We’re also announcing an $11M seed round to help bring this tech to more sports, and I’m fired up to welcome Josh Gwyther former Head of AI at Google, as CEO to lead our journey. I’ll continue leading X Games (best job in sports!) and support the Owl team as founder and executive chairman.
And as we have built out the tech, it’s done things that have absolutely shocked us:
1. It can commentate live sports in any language—making events more accessible to fans around the world. This weekend, we’ll broadcast Summer X Games in Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, and Mandarin using Owl.
2. It’s becoming a surprisingly insightful coach. Upload a training video, and the level of feedback it gives back is honestly shocking.
3. It’s also showing real potential in talent evaluation—helping colleges, scouts, and leagues identify the next stars using video and performance data.
The Owl isn’t just a better judge or referee—we think it’s the start of a smarter sports ecosystem.
If you care about pushing sports forward—about fairness, better tools for athletes, and unlocking what’s next—come build with us.
The Owl is officially in flight🦉🚀

My sister Molly and I grew up with big dreams, although back then we could have never predicted where they would take us.
For Molly, that meant building one of the largest underground poker games in American history, only to see it all come crashing down with a federal indictment and an arrest by the FBI.
But her story was far from over. She wrote Molly’s Game, which became an Oscar-nominated film written and directed by the legendary Aaron Sorkin.
My journey took me to the Olympics, the NFL, and eventually into entrepreneurship and business.
Very different paths, but remarkably similar lessons about ambition, failure, resilience, and the courage to start over.
This week, ConnectWise invited us to share our stories on stage together. We’ve both told our stories countless times, but rarely have we had the opportunity to tell them together.
It was a special experience, and a reminder that the dreams we had as kids weren’t nearly as important as the people we became chasing them.
Thanks to the ConnectWise team for bringing us together!

I’ve been very lucky to spend my life working on my biggest passions with incredible people, making all the long hours and hard work feel a lot less like work.

At SBJ’s thought-leadership event, we talked about how we are reinventing action sports. Since ‘95, the X Games was built around moments. One run. One trick. One gold medal. Most remember at least one. But this year, the loudest moment of the summer was a 4th place.
@danielsandoval dropped in on the last event with New York and Tokyo tied. He rode on a fractured kneecap and torn ligaments in his wrist. He finished fourth and it clinched the title by ten points.
Nobody asked him to ride. I wouldn’t have. He rode because his team’s season came down to it, a sentence that has never existed in this sport.
The building came apart. Not for a gold medal. For fourth.
A clip of a trick asks nothing of you. A clip of a fourth place finish only means something if you already knew what was at stake.
That’s the whole bet.
Progression was never the problem. The tricks just needed a bigger story around them. Who’s chasing whom. Who needs a fourth. Who’s hurt. Who’s surging. What’s at stake every time an athlete drops in.
And there are early signs it’s working.
Daniel’s been competing at X Games since 2013. He has multiple golds. This was one of the biggest month of his career: 25M views, platform earnings up 14x.
Two of our three stops ran head-to-head with the men’s World Cup, and we still grew our TV audience 78.5% vs. 2025, reaching 18.3M viewers. More than 7M came back for multiple stops.
A never-before-done trick still gets attention. It just can’t hold it. Every trick ever done is now four seconds away, free, forever.
Consequence is the one thing that can’t be uploaded.
That’s what we’re building with The @moonpay X Games League.

What a season.
Nine months ago, this was just an idea.
This weekend, in front of a packed Caesars Superdome, the inaugural MoonPay X Games League Championship came down to the final event. You couldn’t script it any better.
From Sacramento to Chiba to New Orleans…
From our first-ever team draft to the first-ever league champion…
From selling clubs around the world to watching athletes battle for their teammates instead of just themselves…
We proved that action sports can evolve without losing its soul.
To every athlete who believed in this vision before anyone else, thank you. You made history.
To our fans, partners, broadcasters, host cities, team owners, GM’s, and the incredible X Games staff who poured everything they had into making this happen, thank you for believing that we could build something new.
Congrats to XC New York, our inaugural champions, and to every club that helped make this first season unforgettable. Rivalries were born. Stars emerged. History was made.
This is only Season One.
The foundation is built. Now we make it bigger, louder, and even more impossible to ignore.
See you this winter. ❄️🔥

The future of sports won’t be built by protecting old business models and legacy products. It’ll be built by those willing to rethink leagues, media, tech, and the fan experience from first principles.
Looking forward to discussing exactly that at Sports Business Journal Thought Leaders with an incredible group of leaders from across the industry.

It was a pleasure joining our friends and partners at Proskauer for their 2026 Media & Entertainment Summit. We talked about how Owl AI is evolving into an intelligence layer for live sports that turns every moment of competition into structured, outcome-linked data that can power judging, commentary, coaching, replay, sponsorship measurement, and new fan experiences.
We also talked about how the MoonPay X Games League is creating a new on-ramp for action sports fans. Not every casual sports fan may know today’s athletes, but everyone understands rooting for their city and watching incredible human feats.
By pairing world class competition with city-based teams, the league makes it easier for non endemic fans to reconnect with the sports they love while helping grow the entire action sports ecosystem.
