🍯 The Muéganos are a family so close they’re stuck together, like the traditional Mexican candy. Papá Muégano says it’s honey that holds them. Mamá says it’s love. The oldest, Julia, wouldn’t have it any other way. Sure, swimming isn’t always easy, and it wouldn’t hurt to have a little privacy, but there’s always someone close by to help with homework, and there’s nothing like cuddling up with your parents.
🍯 Until the day the Muéganos take a trip to the museum, and Julia’s irrepressible curiosity causes an unexpected crack... Mamá wants to fix it. Papá tries to be more careful. But some things are just inevitable.
🍯 In THE MUÉGANOS, Mexican author-illustrator Jaque Jours tells a universal story about independence, growing up, and learning to let go.

✨ What a joy it was to welcome 𝐌𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫 𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 to Sullaluna, here in New York to share her first book, 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐮𝐞́𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐬, accompanied by her family and in conversation with 𝐂𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐑𝐮𝐢𝐳 🥰

In the book, Jacque explores 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, and the sharing of spaces and experiences within a family of rabbits, brought together by love and connection.

It was a pleasure to hear her talk about the origins of the book, inspired by 𝐦𝐮𝐞́𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐬, 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭 made of small pieces of fried wheat dough, joined together and covered in a warm, unrefined brown sugar syrup. As the syrup cools, it binds the pieces together into a compact whole — much like the bonds that hold a family together.

Muégano NYC takeover starts now 🗽🚕 👯👯👯👯 Yesterday we stopped by Brooklyn institution @greenlightbklyn, where @jaquejours signed (and illustrated!) copies of THE MUÉGANOS—we also caught a first look at Jaque's official @bkbookfest poster out in the wild…

This has been one of the happiest, most interesting, intense and rewarding birthdays I’ve ever had, spent surrounded by kids, incredible teachers and the amazing team at Transit Children’s Editions (@transitchildrenseditions) 💙 I celebrated it on the road, on my debut picture book tour visiting two elementary schools in San Francisco, where I got to share a bit about me and my book with the kids, and then watching them make their own family plaque. 💙🥺 Now heading to New York, where such a big part of the making of The Muéganos took place. Such an amazing way to celebrate another year. 🤧

🌉 THE MUÉGANOS in the Bay! 🌉 Author-illustrator Jaque Jours (@jaquejours) presented THE MUÉGANOS to rapt audiences at two SFUSD elementary schools and at our offices in Berkeley, followed by workshops in which kids designed their own Muéganos-inspired Talavera name plaques 💙💙 We rounded out Jaque's whistle-stop tour with our inaugural Transit Picture Book Club Salon, a craft talk on the making of THE MUÉGANOS with Transit Children's Editions publisher Adam Levy.

SELECTED! My debut picture book, The Muéganos, was selected for The Original Art Show 2026 at the Society of Illustrators, and I am soooo happy!!!
Two years ago I visited this exhibition while I was still working on the book, and I remember standing there thinking everyone in it was on a completely different level. 🤧 It’s hard to believe how far this book has taken me.

Join author/illustrator Jaque Jours @jaquejours, author of The Muéganos, for a conversation about the creative process behind her celebrated debut picture book with Adam Levy, her editor and the publisher of Transit Children’s Editions. They’ll discuss the evolution of her work—from early sketches and visual storytelling to the editorial collaboration that shaped the final book which has garnered a swell of starred reviews and led to Jaque’s poster design for the 2026 @bkbookfest.
Following the conversation, Jours will lead an interactive workshop, focusing on approach to character, composition, pacing, and visual narrative.
