Sebastián Lelio, the humanistic Chilean filmmaker whose trans drama “A Fantastic Woman” won the Best International Feature Film Oscar in 2018, has passed away at age 52.⁠ ⁠ Lelio directed the first International Feature Oscar entry to win the Academy Award with the Golden Bear-nominated film, an exuberantly styled drama that put trans actress Daniela Vega on the international map.⁠ ⁠ The Chilean publication Emol first revealed the news that Lelio was found deceased in his home in Santiago on Friday, November 6, amid an undisclosed health issue. Letterboxd, the social networking platform for cinephiles, has new owners. The website is finalizing a deal to sell to The New York Times Company that values the website at $330 million, according to a report from the NYT on Thursday.⁠ ⁠ A deal is not yet reached and could still fall apart, but the companies have entered into exclusive negotiations.
