Just had the pleasure of meeting with the team at @covenanthousecalifornia to learn more about the incredible work they’re doing in supporting homeless youth that have aged out of the foster system, but require more targeted services than most adult shelters are equipped to provide. This includes everything from a safe place to stay, shower, eat to onsite comprehensive medical services, education and career support and a community of people that are dedicated to not only helping them get off the streets but set them up with everything they need to live happy, healthy, independent lives outside of the shelter. A few ways they communicated to me that you can help support their work: DONATE AND FUNDRAISE: it should come as no surprise that under the current administration they have lost a lot of funding they previously relied on, resulting in cuts to services and hobbling their ability to serve as many of our homeless youth as possible. If you’re one of the countless rich gay men with seemingly endless expendable incomes, consider donating directly. If you’re unable to help directly (because let’s face it we’re all struggling) consider throwing a fundraiser or support the many that I’m already cooking up. VOLUNTEER: There are a ton of opportunities to volunteer there, from basic day to day support to teaching a workshop in your field. They have a sick music center and a lot of very talented kids who could use some time with any of the many talented folks I know are reading this. AWARENESS: the biggest thing they told me they need is just basic awareness of who they are and what they do. So many people have no idea about the work they’re doing and the more people know the more kids they can help. They have helped so many kids that would normally fall through the cracks move on to happy, healthy, stable lives and they need all the help they can get to continue. 06 Nov 2026
