I learnt something about the ingredients of Love and I want to share a few. Credit: #Michigan Life Coaching Love Needs More Than Chemistry Chemistry gets a lot of credit. And yes, chemistry matters. Attraction matters. Desire matters. That feeling of being drawn toward another person can be intoxicating. But chemistry alone can't carry a relationship. Eventually, real life enters the room. Stress. Money. Family. Different needs. Disagreements. Disappointments. Changing bodies. Changing dreams. Bad moods. Old wounds. Life transitions. The Ingredients of Love We know of TRUST, RESPECT, UNDERSTANDING, and COMMUNICATION. But There are two ingredients that we don't actively add to and I want to share. 1. Emotional Safety This ingredient deserves a place of its own. Can you actually exhale around this person? Can you be disappointed, angry, vulnerable, confused, or imperfect without fearing punishment, ridicule, withdrawal, or retaliation? Emotional safety doesn't mean there is never conflict. It means conflict doesn't make the relationship feel like a threat. When emotional safety is present, you don't have to constantly monitor the room, read someone's mood, or edit yourself to maintain peace. You can be real. 2. Emotional Availability Someone can love you and still be emotionally unavailable to you. That's a difficult truth. Emotional availability is the willingness and capacity to be present beyond the surface. Can you talk about what's actually happening inside you? Can you be vulnerable? Can you tolerate your partner's vulnerability? Can you stay present when a conversation becomes uncomfortable? Intimacy requires more than proximity. It requires being willing to be known. 05 Sep 2026
