Well. Guess it’s time. Stephen Colbert changed my life. He said “you’re hired” and my dream job became a job. Making late night is all I’ve ever wanted to do. I love it, and not only did I get to make it, I got to make it as part of a team of incredibly talented people. A few months in, as a frazzled first time tv writer and first time dad (don’t recommend that combo!) Jon Stewart looked me in the eyes and said, “If you can write this, you can write anything on television.” Turns out he was right. A show a day is incredibly hard work… but what a gift it is to work so hard on something so stupid. It’s been multiple years and multiple shows since I worked there, but The Late Show still matters to me. The show’s legacy goes back to my childhood. The building is historic several times over. But it’s the people. @tbox1999 who recommended me for the job. @lizhynes2 who became a close friend AND a coworker on another show. @brianstack153__ who proved that meeting your heroes can be great. All the writers - including the fantastic staff there now - and footage, and research, and graphics, and field, and talent, and the crew, and the army of apprentices and interns. I don’t know what will happen to the Ed Sullivan, but for the rest of my life when I walk past it, I’ll stop and tell my kids “That’s the place that changed my life.” 21 May 2026

The grandma you pretend is just a sweet old fashioned lady voted for this. The neighbor you tell yourself is a good guy voted for this. The pastor you roll your eyes at when he “gets political” voted for this. 77 million Americans voted for this, and most of them did it with their eyes open. They printed up signs and cheered for it.
