#Dakar2026, l’histoire commence ici !

@TheBAL season may be over, but the energy continues.
Next stop: #Dakar.
This week, the BAL Festival brings our community together in #Senegal for a celebration of basketball, culture, music and the creativity that surrounds the game.
Dakar has always held a special place in the BAL journey, and I’m excited to see our community come together once again, this time beyond the competition, to celebrate everything that makes African basketball culture unique.
Because the BAL has always been about more than what happens on the court. It is about the people, the culture and the movement we are building around the game.
Dakar, we’re coming home. See you at the BAL Festival!

Six seasons in, the Basketball Africa League (@thebal) continues to show what is possible when we believe in the potential of African basketball.
#BALSeason6 brought together 12 teams from 12 countries, competing across Pretoria, Rabat and Kigali. More than 110,000 fans came through our doors, while over 1.1 billion views across social media carried the energy of the BAL far beyond our arenas and to fans around the world.
We witnessed new teams, new markets, packed arenas, unforgettable performances and, fittingly, another piece of history as the @rssb_tigers became the first Rwandan team to lift the BAL trophy.
But what stays with me most is not one game or one number. It is seeing the ecosystem continue to grow, the players inspiring the next generation, the fans making this league their own, and #African basketball increasingly taking its place on the global stage.
Six seasons down. We keep building.

The future of #African basketball won’t be defined only by what happens in arenas. It will be shaped in classrooms, boardrooms, communities, and on courts where young people are given the opportunity to dream bigger.
That has always been the purpose of the @seedproject Hoop Forum.
As we celebrate its 24th edition, I’m inspired by what this community continues to build: more than 500 young athletes, 90 elite prospects, 150+ coaches, and countless conversations, connections, and opportunities that will shape the future of African basketball.
My sincere thanks go to the entire #SEED team, our alumni who returned to mentor the next generation, and all our sponsors and partners for their unwavering commitment to this journey.
Together, we are building far more than players. We are developing the next generation of African leaders.
The marathon continues.

What makes the @seedproject Hoop Forum special isn’t just the basketball.
It’s the conversations that spark new ideas, the connections that create lifelong opportunities, and the shared belief that investing in young people is one of the smartest investments we can make.
For 24 years, the Hoop Forum has brought together students, coaches, alumni, entrepreneurs, and leaders who all understand that success is never built alone.
A special thank you to all the SEED alumni who returned this year. Your willingness to give back, share your journeys, and mentor the next generation is what makes this community so unique. Your example reminds every student that success carries a responsibility to lift others.
Proud of what this community continues to build, and excited for what comes next.

Twenty-four years ago, we launched the @seedproject Hoop Forum with a simple belief: basketball can open doors far beyond the court.
Today, seeing young people, educators, alumni, leaders, and partners come together for the 24th edition is a powerful reminder of how far that vision has come.
The #HoopForum is more than an event. It’s where talent meets opportunity, where education and leadership come together, and where Africa’s next generation of changemakers begins to take shape.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Together, we’re building something that goes far beyond basketball, we’re investing in #Africa’s present and future, one young leader at a time.

Discipline. Joy. Drive. Community. That’s the spirit of the Tournoi des Quartiers.

Africa’s sports economy is entering a new era, one where the conversation is no longer only about talent, but about ownership, value creation, and long-term economic impact.
On Friday, at the @africaceoforum_acf 2026 in Kigali, I had the privilege of joining H.E. @nellymukazayire and Ethiopis Tafara for a timely discussion on what it will take to transform Africa’s sports momentum into a true wealth-creation engine for the continent.
Africa is no longer just a talent pipeline for global sports, the next chapter is about ownership: of platforms, infrastructure, media rights, data, brands, and the economic value created across the ecosystem.
The opportunity is immense. The mission now is to build sustainable sports businesses capable of creating jobs, attracting investment, empowering youth, and ensuring that more of the value generated by African sport remains on the continent.
The future of African sport is not only about competition. It is about economic transformation.
