SOUP! Join us for a lecture and a communal meal on Wednesday, November 4th. Bring a friend. Bowls will be on exchange for a donation. Money raised will help fund future student led, food related events at CCA. 02 Nov 2026 ๐“ข๐“ž๐“ค๐“Ÿ - join us for a communal meal on November 4th. After the lecture by David Silver we sit down together for ๐“ข๐“ž๐“ค๐“Ÿ. Susanne Cockrellโ€™s UDIST class will make the soup, and the students, faculty and staff of CCA have made ceramic bowls. There is a bowl for each calendar year that CCAC has been in existence. Both the lecture and the soup are free, and open to everyone. If you would like to take a bowl (or bowls) home with you, we will be accepting donations on a sliding scale. Funds raised by the bowls will support more communal food related activities in the future. . November 4, 2026, 5:00pm ...Leaving out the Luminaries: Students, collaboration, and the farm at Black Mountain College. A lecture by David Silver in Timken Hall at CCACโ€™s San Francisco campus . 6:30, SOUP, Nave Presentation Space .Sponsored by @wattisarts and CCA@CCA and the UDIST program. 26 Oct 2026 ๐—–๐—–๐—”๐—–eramics invites you to join us for this yearโ€™s Kari Marboe lecture, given by our own legend, Arthur Gonzalez. @arthur7582 . The lecture will be on Wednesday, October 14, 6pm, at California College of the Arts, in Timken Hall. This lecture is open to the public. If you are a @cca_ceramics alum still living in the Bay Area, attendance is required. . . At the beginning of the school year, I try to get a feel for where the students are at- what they think art school is and what they think an artist does. Last year I tried out this survey to gauge the collective mindset of the class. Throughout the semester, I experimented with ways to get them more open and more loose. What I realized was that some foundational beliefs needed to be shaken up a bit to make space for new approaches. . I made these pins as a way to subtly inject new ideas and other ways of thinking. Sometimes, it worked. . Iโ€™m not exactly sure all the reasons why, and it certainly wasnโ€™t just my class, but when they took the same survey at the end of the semester, they were definitely looser and more open. . Iโ€™m curious about how other @foundationsinart professors think about this? What do you do? 14 Sep Following a thorough review by the Office ๐•บ๐–‹๐–‹๐–Ž๐–ˆ๐–Š ๐–”๐–‹ ๐–„๐–”๐–š๐–™๐– ๐•ฎ๐–”๐–’๐–’๐–š๐–“๐–Ž๐–ˆ๐–†๐–™๐–Ž๐–”๐–“๐–˜ & ๐•ฌ๐–š๐–—๐–† ๐•ธ๐–†๐–“๐–†๐–Œ๐–Š๐–’๐–Š๐–“๐–™ we have determined that several phrases were giving: โŒ unc โŒ administrator โŒ โ€œback in my dayโ€ โŒ unsolicited lecture We sincerely apologize for any unc-related harm this may have caused. Our team has since consulted with the Department of Gen Z Affairs, the Office of Brainrot Communications, and several people under the age of 25. This message has been approved by the Office of Communications, the Department of Student Affairs, and one extremely online sophomore who told us to โ€œbe so fr.โ€ I would also like to thank my First Year bestie and foundations pedagogue extraordinaire @celkovich for help with this content. Yes ChatGPT helped translate this post. I canโ€™t speak like that. 19 Aug 2026 Itโ€™s that season! Maybe you know someone heading off to college who might roll their eyes when you send this to them? This is some accumulated soft knowledge we professors have gathered from watching year after year. I donโ€™t have First Year students for the first time in fifteen years, so this energy had to go somewhere. Might as well go here. I know Iโ€™m gonna take heat for slide 5 from someone. If you teach, feel free to add your own insights. 18 Aug 2026 Some things from CCACโ€™s ceramic history we dug up in our archives. 1. Wheel throwing students in the old โ€œPot Shopโ€ on the Oakland Campus 2. Marguerite Wildenhain instructing some students in the early 40s. 3-6 Images of the pots from Peter Voulkosโ€™s MFA thesis in 1952. 7. A plate by faculty member Jacomena Maybeck. She got her MFA from CCAC in 1952 and then taught until her retirement in 1978. 8. A student at the spray booth in the Pot Shop 9. Vernon โ€œCorkyโ€ Coykendall showing Princess Maryam from Bombay, India around the Pot Shop. 10. A raku party in the back of the old Pot Shop. 11. Corky, Viola Frey and Noni Treadwell on the occasion of the new Treadwell Ceramics building on the Oakland campus. 12. Art Nelson at the wheel during an โ€œArt in Actionโ€ demonstration for the public. 13. Daddy Art Nelson handling Viola Freyโ€™s art car for the SFMOMA Soap Box Derby. 14. A snippet of the CCAC summer programming newsletter, 1962 15. A student wedging clay. Iโ€™m trying to figure things out and how it all fits together (if it all fits together). Thank you to @julieorser , @larajeangal and Josiah for the hands on studio visit help. . Yes, there is some sloppy digital editing of some background. 12 Feb 2026 Work in progressโ€ฆ.. While I was at Montalvo I was trying to figure out where these things are going? Something about reorganizing feelings through collage and translating three dimensional form into something consumable. Going both ways and making things easier and more difficult. . 07 Feb 2026
