This gown is one of sixteen pieces from Alexander McQueen’s final collection, presented after his death in February 2010. Finished by Sarah Burton and shown in an intimate presentation during Paris Fashion Week, Angels & Demons drew from the devotional art of the Northern and Italian Renaissance - finding, in McQueen’s words, light and beauty in the art of the Dark Ages. The dress is documented on pages 98–99 of Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, photographed by Sølve Sundsbø, and was exhibited at the Met’s landmark Savage Beauty exhibition, and an identical example is held in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Recently added to the Epoque archive. 04 Nov 2026 Alexander McQueen ‘Drei Mädchen’ Sequin Coat Autumn/Winter 1998. The collection was dedicated to Annabelle Neilson and widely considered among the most significant of McQueen’s career. The sequin image is frequently misidentified as the Romanov sisters; it is in fact “Drei Mädchen” (“Three Girls”), photographed in 1845 by Carl Gustav Oehme. Examples from the collection are held in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. As seen on the runway, and famously worn by Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. Featured in the Epoque archive, shot in St Tropez📸 30 Oct 2026 We all know and love the iconic Newspaper Dress from Christian Dior by John Galliano’s Autumn/Winter 2000 ready-to-wear “Fly Girl” collection, as famously worn by Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. But the newspaper print itself carries a longer history... swipe to learn more In 1935, Elsa Schiaparelli created a textile covered in real newspaper clippings about herself and her fashion house. Newspaper print appeared again during the paper-dress boom of the 1960s. Twiggy was photographed in a newsprint paper dress in 1967, while the Chicago Sun-Times produced its own promotional mini paper dress. Galliano’s Spring/Summer 2000 Haute Couture show, “Les Clochards” a 42-look collection referencing homelessness, opened with trousers printed with his own press coverage from the International Herald Tribune. The show was sharply criticised in the French and international press. Six weeks later, newsprint returned in Christian Dior’s AW2000 ready-to-wear collection “Fly Girl”. Galliano replaced the Herald Tribune pages with a fictional “Christian Dior Daily”, after Schiaparelli’s 1935 newsprint, and printed it on chiffon slips, dresses, leather and coat linings for a collection inspired by new money and the rising R&B stars of the time. Later in 2000, the print reached an audience far beyond the runway. Sarah Jessica Parker wore a Christian Dior by John Galliano newspaper-print dress as Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City, Season 3, Episode 17, “What Goes Around Comes Around.” The look became one of Carrie Bradshaw’s best-known outfits and helped turn the Dior newspaper dress into one of the defining fashion pieces associated with the series, and fashion culture of the early 2000s. Dior has returned to the print almost two decades later. For Dior Men Spring/Summer 2020, shown in Paris in June 2019, Kim Jones revisited Galliano’s newspaper design. The new version was lighter and more muted, with the original print rendered in white on sheer fabric and Galliano’s face removed. The newspaper print was most recently featured prominently in Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel Cruise 2027 collection, shown in Biarritz. Blazy traced it to Gabrielle Chanel’s remark that she liked “ 29 Oct 2026 Gucci Green Dévoré Velvet Mini Dress by Tom Ford SS1996. The dress was seen on the runway worn by Linda Evangelista and photographed by Mario Testino for the season’s advertising campaign. More than 25 years later, Miley Cyrus wore the same design during her televised New Year’s Eve special welcoming 2023. An example of the dress is also held in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. An important design from Ford’s early years at Gucci.
