Cruise Ship Kid: Thief at Sea is such a fun, feel-good read and honestly one of the most enjoyable books I’ve picked up in ages. You’re instantly swept into life on board with Silver, who lives on a cruise ship (how cool is that?), and it’s impossible not to get caught up in the mystery and adventure. The gang she meets along the way are brilliant, each bringing something different, but I have to say Tommy was my favourite, mainly because he calls everyone ‘duck’ all the time, which just made me smile every time he popped up. What makes this one extra special are the little interactive bits sprinkled throughout. There are spaces to doodle and write, plus those classic ‘would you rather’ questions that children will love dipping into. It’s engaging, playful, and so easy to recommend. Happy Halloween! Last night I was in a room of people dressed as cool, obscure film characters, from musicals, Claudia from the Traitors, Cruella... I was a highly original witch. A wonderful week with the fabulous Emma Swan! This time last week I was visiting my local schools with the fantastic author of Cruise Ship Kid @emmaswanauthor and what a brilliant time we had! Emma was here for 3 days, to visit three schools, for three different events. Day one at Belbroughton CofE Primary was a half day - an assembly and 2 workshops with the children. Day two was an assembly and book signing at Holywell and Day 3 was a full day at Chad Vale Primary, which included an assembly and 4 workshops. The children absolutely LOVED Emma, she had them roaring with laughter in her fun and interactive assembly, which featured a cheeky Silver, the lead character of Cruise Ship Kid. They learned about Emma's life living on board a Cruise ship, played some "this or that", sang a funny song and lots more! Then they had a real treat in their workshops - two truths and a lie "Traitors style" and starting some diary writing - she showed them her diary from when she was a child on board Cruise ships! I feel so incredibly grateful for my job and the opportunities it brings me! My younger self would never believe I'd be working with an amazing author and spreading the joy of reading to children in school. Even my older self, bored in an office job in insurance wouldn't have known this change of career was on the cards! Thanks Emma for a fantastic day, I'm pretty sure we will be working together again soon!... And catching up on our Disney obsession! (There is nothing I love more in life than finding a fellow Disney adult and obsessing over "which park is your fave" and Brogan Tate 🤣😍) If you're curious about bringing Emma to your school get in touch, I'd love to help 🙂 29 Oct 2026

Sometimes you have one of those days when you remember why you wanted to be a children's author. I met such hilarious, honest, inspiring children today.
