Veterans Day is on Wednesday, and I had to dig deep into my archives for these. A week before President Obama’s second inauguration, I was in DC for a gig. I woke up extremely early, looked out my hotel room window, and saw they were running a parade rehearsal down below. I grabbed my camera and hit the streets. Rows of service members marching in formation in the early morning, before the crowds, before the cameras, before the world was watching. I didn’t see another photographer in sight. It felt like I’d been let in on something. To every veteran and everyone currently serving, thank you for your sacrifice. #DNicePhotography #LeicaMonochrom 06 Nov 2026

Last night I was sorting through some old pics from 2009 and came across images I snapped during President Obama’s first inauguration. The hope and joy people felt that weekend was incredible. The energy in DC was electric and inspiring. It was freezing cold, but nobody cared. We all stood out there together and witnessed history. Some moments you never forget. Were you there? Heading into today’s writing session feeling so energized about sharing my story with the world. There’s so much more to me than Club Quarantine, and I can’t wait for you all to read it. Call Me D-Nice: A Memoir & Beyond is scheduled to drop first quarter of 2028. (If I could finished it before the deadline. lol) I hope you’ll ride with me when it drops. This is just an appreciation post for @kooldjredalert. I watched DJ Red Alert’s retirement announcement and felt a little sad at first. Then it hit me how much joy it’s been to hear him on the radio for over four decades. Red has played a huge role in my life. He was part of the BDP Crew with @teacha_krsone, Scott, me, and others. He was the first to play BDP’s first two singles, “South Bronx” and “The Bridge Is Over,” on the radio. The first rap song I ever performed on was a promo for Red called “The TR 808 Is Coming,” and he opened his @98.7kissfm show with it every Saturday night for over two years. I’ll never forget walking into the station with an acetate of “Call Me D-Nice.” I went into the control room and played it for him. He took it straight to the program director, Vinny Brown, and told him it was a hit. Vinny added it to regular rotation on the spot, at a time when they weren’t playing much rap during the day. That song exploded in New York. I used to stand in the booth watching him spin, wanting to be just like Red. It’s safe to say I owe part of my success to him for always believing in me and showing up with support when I needed it. I took this photo of Red in the dressing room on our first BDP tour with Eric B and Rakim, Kool Moe Dee, Dougie, Biz, and Ice-T called the Dope Jam Tour! What a memory. Red, thank you for everything you’ve given to Hip-Hop culture. Congrats on your retirement from radio, and on more than 50 years of DJing. And happy early 70th birthday! Much love. 🙏🏾 03 Nov 2026

If someone would’ve told me decade ago that in 2026, a two year old in Nebraska would know my name or would be wearing a shirt with my face on it, I wouldn’t have believed it.
