D&AD Shift is our free night school for self-taught New York creatives who are ready to break into the advertising and design industries. We want to shake up the industry and open doors for underrepresented talent. No degrees, portfolios or résumés needed, just the drive to show the world what you’ve got. As a Shifter, you’ll plan and execute ideas and concepts, flex your creative muscles and even take on real briefs from major brands. You’ll also build your creative network, receive mentorship and guidance from those in the industry, and make those all-important career connections. Shifters around the world have gone on to work for Apple, Disney and Adobe, to name a few, with almost 400 people having taken part in the programme so far. If you’re hungry to make it in the creative industry but aren’t sure how, we want to hear from you. Applications are open until November 29. D&AD Alive is coming. Last year, we asked, “Is creativity dead or alive?” And you all have made it very clear that creativity is very much alive…but it’s facing more pressure than ever. Crucially, if creativity is going to flourish, it needs a space to grow. So we’re building one. Next June in London, we’re bringing D&AD Festival and New Blood Festival together under one roof for the first time. From the industry’s new and emerging talent to seasoned professionals, from the agencies and studios making the work to the brands and in-house teams who champion it: this is a celebration of true creative excellence from around the world. And new for 2027: we’ll open the event with the D&AD Awards Ceremony. The Pencil will be where the conversation starts, rather than where it ends. Come to question, learn, connect and create at D&AD Alive: Where Creativity Lives. More to be revealed soon. Filmmaker Gabriel Moses (@gabrielomoses), Jury President at D&AD Awards 2026, shares his take on a shift he spotted during this year's judging: a renewed focus on storytelling. For Moses, the work that cuts through isn't just eye-catching. It's built on strong stories that bring feeling to the screen and give audiences something to connect with. “I feel like having these really kind of strong stories, that we're able to drive a lot of the commercials that we see today home,” he explains. Get Moses’ full take on the trends in the D&AD Annual. The solution (and a punch back in response)? A very twisted science lesson. 🧪🖤 @theordinary partnered with Uncommon Creative Studio London to create The Periodic Fable™, replacing the chemical elements of the periodic table with 49 skincare marketing buzzwords to expose the myths disguised as science. Directed by Olivia De Camps (@oliviadecamps), the surreal, futuristic classroom film puts the beauty industry's increasingly bizarre rituals under the microscope. The work was one of the biggest hitters at D&AD Awards 2026, taking home a rare Black Pencil in Art Direction, plus eight more Pencils across Health & Wellbeing, Press & Outdoor, PR, Art Direction, Media, Graphic Design and Direction. In this Behind the Work interview, hear from De Camps, Czerwenka and Ellie Daghlian (@elio_daghlian, Creative Director, Uncommon Creative Studio) about building the film's strange visual world, choreographing its escalating routines and working with scientists to get the message right. Watch the full interview and get under the skin of The Periodic Fable™ in the 2026 D&AD Annual. For Liu Zhao (@another_liuzhao), founder and creative director of @another_lab_official and Jury President of the Typography jury at D&AD Awards 2026, this distinction is becoming increasingly important. “I think creativity is still alive, but shallow creativity is dying,” he explains. At D&AD Awards 2026, Zhao was excited to see work that went beyond surface-level aesthetics to deliver social or humanistic value. And as AI makes polished visuals easier to produce, he believes strong concepts and experimentation are the keys to creating work that stands out from the rest. And since graduating from #ShiftSaoPaulo in 2026, she's been taking that perspective into the creative industry. Meet Amanda and the full Class of 2026 at the link in bio. It's about ideas that don't just look good on paper; they shake things up, challenge the status quo, and drive real change from the inside out. Take @laposte, which brought Tetris into its truck-loading process to save 15,000 tonnes of CO₂. Or @renaultgroup, which teamed up with the UN and @publicisconseil to make its EV safety innovations available to manufacturers worldwide through UNpatent. Gian Carlo Lanfranco, Founder & CCO at @lc.nyc and D&AD Impact Juror 2026, explains: “These aren’t just advertising campaigns. They’re ideas that transform the way companies operate from the inside out”. Big ideas, with even bigger impact. Discover Institutional Courage and five more key themes in the D&AD Annual Trend Report 2026. Link in bio. #dandad26 #trendreport # #creativeimpact 02 Nov 2026 Architecture, but make it editorial. Created for a specialist audience of architects, @about.architecturalplatform puts drawings, diagrams and data visualisation in the spotlight. @hearst Italia and @kucharswara built the magazine work from the ground up, from its bold opening typography and generous use of technical imagery to a punchy Pantone spot colour cover that gives every issue its own identity. The project earned a Wood Pencil in Magazine & Newspaper Design at D&AD Awards 2026. Defying Category Conventions emerged as a key trend this year, with Pencil-winning work challenging expectations and finding fresh ways to stand out. Take @pembleton_clubhouse and @seachange.studio’s branding for Evil Ray, the Australian suncream brand that calls itself “the official enemy of the sun”, or @gethaps_, which is bringing a dose of character to a UK supplement category dominated by minimal, clinical branding. Both are great examples of brands challenging category conventions and catching the judges’ attention. In this year's Annual Trend Report, Chris Danton, Co-founder and Cultural Strategist at @instagoodcompany, explains: “Breaking category conventions allows you to take hold of your trajectory instead of letting the market and its assumptions decide it for you. And it’s very much a shortcut to differentiation, which is more necessary and harder to achieve than ever”. Curious to learn more about Defying Category Conventions, plus five other trends? Minimal in form but rich in meaning, the identity works across physical and digital touchpoints, and won a Wood Pencil in Brand Identity Refresh at D&AD Awards 2026. There's more to explore in Branding on D&AD. Link in bio to jump in. #dandad26 #brandidentity #branding #graphicdesign #designinspiration #visualidentity #branddesign #artdirection 29 Oct 2026
