On September 11th, I crashed on track after hitting some oil. Unfortunately, during the crash, my left foot got trapped underneath my passenger footpeg, causing some serious damage.
The biggest challenge I was facing these past few days is the loss of sensation in my left foot, which also happens to be the foot I use to shift gears.
I still have no feeling in the top of my foot. I can move it, but it’s uncertain whether the sensation will return or how long that might take. The parts I can still feel are heavily bruised, so getting back on the bike definitely came with some new challenges. So time to adapt right?
Luckily, my racing boots provided enough support and stability for me to get back out there! Not being able to properly feel the gear shifter made shifting a little tricky, and I definitely had some frustrating moments throughout these three days on track.
I also had 1 on 1 coaching from @djim_r1 he helped me with adjusting my shifter and pegs so I could reach it better with my injured foot and we worked our way to build confidence and speed even though I was injured. He’s working on some really cool stuff @raceline.academy so def check that page out ! We had an amazing time and some cool content is coming because ofcourse we brought @lilfilmer 🙂
Another thing I had to work on was rebuilding my confidence in my front tyre. Even though I knew my crash was caused by oil on the track, trusting the front again took some getting used to. But honestly, that’s also part of riding on track. You fall, you get back up, you learn, and you keep improving.
Not every session is going to feel amazing. Sometimes you’re frustrated, sometimes things don’t go the way you planned, and sometimes you have to take a few steps back before you can move forward again.
These three days reminded me that track riding isn’t just about lap times or getting faster. It’s about constantly learning, challenging yourself, building confidence and, most importantly, having fun and doing what you love.
I am still adapting and definitely still learning. But I had an amazing three days in Cartagena, and I’m so happy I got to enjoy being back on track again. ✨🫶🏻

“You were back on the bike so fast… aren’t you scared now because you crashed !?” No, I honestly couldn’t stop smiling.
I was just so happy to be back on the bike, doing what I love and what I’ve missed so much. If that makes me insane so be it.
Of course, I had to rebuild some trust in the bike, but that doesn’t mean I was scared of riding again because I crashed. Was I nervous? Absolutely. But not because I was afraid of crashing again, I already know that’s going to happen if I keep doing this on the level I want to be doing this it at.
I was nervous because of my injured foot, the loss of sensation, and the uncertainty of how much I’ll actually recover. I knew riding wasn’t going to feel the same, and that I’d have to adapt. I don’t even think that that has sunken in yet fully.
For me, getting back on track after a crash wasn’t about overcoming fear. It was about rebuilding trust again, learning to trust myself when my body isn’t a 100% and figuring out how to ride with the challenges I’m currently facing.
Do I have fears when I ride? Of course I do. But I don’t let them take away the joy of riding.
What I do struggle with is frustration. Knowing what I’m capable of, knowing what I want to improve, but having my own body hold me back. That’s something I’m still learning to deal with.
And that’s okay. Progress isn’t always a straight line. Sometimes you have to adjust your expectations, take a few steps back and be grateful for the progress you already made even if that’s going to be very frustrating.
Because at the end of the day, I wasn’t smiling because everything went perfectly. I was smiling because I was finally back doing what I love.
