TODAY'S FEATURED COMIC ART AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 700 VARIANT COVER ARTISTS: OLIVIER COIPEL @oliviercoipel CAF GALLERY: DERMOT D Peter Parker makes his re-entry to the Marvel Universe in the landmark 700th issue of Amazing Spider-Man, regaining control of his body from Doctor Octopus and once again establishing himself as the tried-and-true friendly neighborhood webslinger. This issue naturally featured a number of variant covers; this featured one is by fan-favorite Olivier Coipel. He has posed Spidey in a classic scene, swinging high over the street of New York City but also given this particular piece has a fisheye effect to make the central figure bulge out in the middle while the city skyline in the background, marked by the towering presence of the Empire State Building, curves around him. It also captures Spidey at the moment he releases the webline he was swinging on and shoots another to continue on his way. This cover painting by Hugo Award-winning artist Bob Eggleton depicts the G-Force team of scientists who have an explosive encounter when their research ship gets just a little too close to Godzilla and are now trapped in his clutches. With a new movie hitting theaters, it is a good time to get excited for some more kaiju action. In Godzilla Minus Zero, as Japan tries to establish itself after World War II and the events of the previous movie, a new threat rears its head, and Godzilla will need to fight for his throne as the King of Monsters. Eggleton will celebrate the occasion with a signing this weekend at @thehallofcomicsstore in Westboro, MA on Saturday, November 7th. George Pratt (@georgepratt) will be at OAX 2027! George is an award-winning painter, illustrator, writer, and comic book artist celebrated for his expressive painted artwork and distinctive storytelling style. He is best known for his acclaimed graphic novels Enemy Ace: War Idyll and Batman: Harvest Breed for @DCComics, as well as @Marvelcomics's Wolverine: Netsuke, which earned him the 2003 Eisner Award (@eisnerawards) for Best Painter/Multimedia Artist. Before transforming into the freedom fighter known for his Guy Fawkes mask with the unsettling smile, V was a prisoner of the state, tortured and abused by a series of inhuman medical experiments. While he ultimately gained peak athletic prowess and a startling intellect from those procedures, he still wants revenge. Dr. Delia Surridge appears in this featured page, haunted by what she did to V and the image of his silhouette escaping in a fiery explosion. "One summer's afternoon, I came up with the idea of [V] being a resurrection of one of our great failed British revolutionaries," artist and co-creator David Lloyd recounted to SyFy. "I don't know where that idea came from, the why and how, because it was the middle of summer. It was nowhere near November Fifth when we celebrate Guy Fawkes Night. Because our character was crazy, it’s the sort of thing you would do. If he had been an ordinary, sane rebel, it wouldn't have worked, but because he was crazy enough to do that, he decided to adopt the persona of Guy Fawkes." Esad Ribić (@art.of.esadribic) will be at OAX 2027! Esad is an acclaimed Croatian comic book artist and illustrator renowned for his breathtaking painted artwork, cinematic compositions, and richly detailed storytelling. Best known for his work with Marvel Comics (@marvelcomics), Ribić has illustrated some of the publisher’s most celebrated titles, including Thor: God of Thunder, Secret Wars, Loki, Silver Surfer: Requiem, and Eternals. Uko Smith (@ukosmith) will be at OAX 2027! Uko is an accomplished comic book artist, illustrator, and concept designer whose work spans comics, graphic novels, entertainment, and collectibles. TODAY'S FEATURED COMIC ART THE POWER OF SHAZAM 7 COVER ARTISTS: JERRY ORDWAY @daordster CAF GALLERY: BRIAN NORTON The world's mightiest mortals, Captain Marvel and Mary Marvel, stand heroically lit by the flames of a brazier as the wizard Shazam looks on. The names of the six gods and heroes who share their powers with the Marvels are etched into the Rock of Eternity's walls above them. This painted cover comes from writer/artist Jerry Ordway's revival of the characters in the mid-90s, a high watermark for many aficionados. Ordway told Mile High Comics in an interview it was one of his favorite projects. "I loved the idea of a kid becoming a hero-- and an adult to boot. The idea I embraced was that since Billy had lost his parents, he was subconsciously recreating his family-- the Marvel Family." TODAY'S FEATURED COMIC ART THE MANDALORIAN COMMISSION ARTISTS: MARCO FERRARI @marcoferrarink CAF GALLERY: COLIN SOLAN In a cantina full of scum and villainy, Din Djarin finds himself in an old-fashioned standoff with a Trandoshan bounty hunter over a dispute for the Rodian currently restrained in a head lock. While the Ardennian bartender looks like he is about to panic at the thought of a shoot-out in his place, Grogu and Cara Dune both appear completely unconcerned so Mando must have this situation well in hand. This piece by Italian artist Marco Ferrari has virtually everything a Star Wars fan could ever want in a commission. Beyond the engaging story being visually told, the scene is littered with aliens from a variety of (canonical) species each with their own distinctive outfit and weapons. Ferrari adds a depth to this 2D image by how he has placed figures from the foreground to the background that adds to the cinematic feel. Also, his use of zipatone for the shading is done with a masterful touch. TODAY'S FEATURED COMIC ART AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 8 PG 13 ARTISTS: STEVE DITKO CAF GALLERY: RON LIM This featured page comes from Spider-Man's first year of publication and depicts him in a battle with the Living Brain, a robot who has been tasked to figure out Spidey's secret identity. Steve Ditko puts Spidey's acrobatic prowess on display here as he leaps around the room avoiding the Living Brain's attack, clinging to the walls and ceiling like an actual spider dodging a rolled-up newspaper. While something of an obscure figure in Spider-Man's history, writer Dan Slott revived the Living Brain during the Superior Spider-Man run and it became a storage unit for Dr. Octopus's mind after being expelled from Peter Parker's body. This issue is more than sixty years old but still warns against the potential danger artificial intelligence might pose to people and society.
