Solo Sculpture Trail

It was so special to see “From Where We Rise” again, two years after its installation. The piece is deeply connected to the land itself, painted with soil taken directly from the site. Just a few meters away, the ocean and beach create a powerful dialogue with the piece - the sound of the waves constantly linking sea and land.
The work is also rooted in Oaxaca and its people, in a place where pottery and artisanal practices have been shaped from the same earth for generations. This weekend, it was a joy to discover new additions to the property since my last visit, including the Orchid Pavilion by @BernardoQuinzaños, and the Mushroom Pavillion by @omanewyork @shohei_shigematsu. The opening of Richard Long’s beautiful exhibition “From Popocatépetl to the Pacific” was a wonderful occasion to reconnect with this special place and the people behind it.
I’m truly honored to have this permanent work here, in the company of incredible architects @TadaoAndo, @AlvaroSiza, and @KengoKuma, alongside a fantastic group of artists at this remarkable site. @josedavila @ugorondinone0 @_hector_zamora_ big up to @izukat692 for his beautiful show @meridiano.art and special thanks and congratulations to @studioboscosodi

“What we see is a landscape of red dunes cresting in an endlessly repeating climax. Fashioned from local soil, it stands in seeming harmony with the hardscrabble but irrepressibly fecund local environment, including the various native plants that Comte intended to be integral to it. But this harmony is an intentionally gorgeous mirage. The insistently accelerating pattern of irregular wave forms on the wall is: a distortion field; a visual klaxon signaling doom; the readout of a terrestrial oscilloscope, with the disordered frequency, cycle, wavelength, amplitude, and phase of these waves showing our existence accelerating towards critical mass. Last week, we celebrated the opening of “What does it mean to live a Finite, Fragile Life in an Infinite Eternal Universe”, Claudia Comte’s second solo exhibition at Albarrán Bourdais.
Through a new series of Carrara marble sculptures and an immersive, site-specific installation, Comte transforms the gallery into a landscape where nature, time and scale intertwine.
Exploring the relationship between the fleeting nature of life and geological time, the exhibition brings together delicate floral forms and ancient stone, creating an immersive environment that reflects on fragility, transformation and the passage of time.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening!
🗓️ On view in Madrid until December 31, 2026.

La semana pasada celebramos la inauguración de “What does it mean to live a Finite, Fragile Life in an Infinite Eternal Universe”, la segunda exposición individual de Claudia Comte en Albarrán Bourdais.

Happy Halloween 2026!
We must be living in the best village… People are going wild with the Halloween decorations and have still such a great sense of community.

Opening today!!
“What does it mean to live a finite, fragile life in an infinite, eternal universe” @albarran.bourdais in Madrid.
I’m very proud to share my second solo show at the gallery with you. 🤍
33 unique marble flowers, each one holding a contradiction: something delicate and fleeting transformed into something seemingly eternal.
A flower blooms for a moment. Marble remembers millions of years. Perhaps this tension is also a reflection of us. Our lives are finite, fragile and brief, yet we are part of something immeasurably larger, made of the same matter as the universe around us.
The flowers remind us that fragility and permanence are not opposites, but different ways of understanding time. What matters is not only how long something lasts, but what happens while it is here.
Thank you to Eva and Christian, the gallery team, and my studio for making this exhibition possible.

Booth A0.01

Eight unique sculptures in yew and common holly brought together in a new monumental installation. The sculptures emerge from a 600 cm long sequoia trunk sourced from the Jura mountains, in the forest of my hometown, where the tree had to be felled as part of forest management. Together, the eight forms transform a single trunk into a forest in miniature, each with its own distinct character yet connected by a shared origin. The work explores the endless variations of organic forms and the sculptural possibilities of wood, bringing together the raw presence of the tree and the precise gestures of carving.
Alongside Fractal Forest, Turn and Slip and Jungle Paintings are on view until Saturday.

In Carrara, among the marble quarries, seeing the stone at its source.
Carrara marble originated from marine sediments around 200 million years ago, which were transformed over time by heat and pressure into the stone I often work with today. Walking through these mountains is always a humbling experience that puts things into perspective, reminding me of the immense timescales of geology and how brief our own presence is in comparison…
Finding the right block is the beginning of a much longer process. Each sculpture starts with a shape carved by hand in wood, which is gradually developed using the chainsaw and refined through weeks of sanding and polishing in the studio. Only then is the wooden shape 3D scanned and translated into marble.
The material is extraordinary because it carries such a long history within it, yet remains so present and tangible, with its own veins, imperfections and variations that make every block (and therefore sculpture) unique. Since my first visit 13 years ago, I continue to be amazed every time I return! It’s truly special coming back to these mountains and to be working with the same teams, whose knowledge and craftsmanship have been passed down through generations of families.

A new feature in CAMINADA. Magazine, photographed by Anne Morgenstern and accompanied by an interview with Caroline Micaela Hauger.
It was a pleasure to welcome Caroline to the studio on a beautiful spring day back in April. We spoke about my practice, the way I work, and how much the studio and the landscape around it have become part of my daily life and inspiration.
Anne captured the atmosphere of the place beautifully. It was actually not the first time she had visited — a few years ago, when we had just moved onto the property, she came to portrait me for Konfekt Magazine. So it felt a little like coming full circle, and lovely to see how much the place has slowly evolved since then.
Thank you to the CAMINADA. team for this feature, and to Caroline and Anne for the wonderful conversation and images.

I took a road trip to the South of France with Svetlana. We visited some of my favorite places and checked on some of the works I installed lately.
From Saint-Paul-de-Vence at Fondation CAB to Domaine du Muy, we couldn’t help to stop by at Dragon Hill before hitting Cannes for a fun night out. ❤️
