Christmas presents come early! 🎄 Dior have released a brand new animated short film for Christmas, which includes an original orchestral soundtrack by young French composer Côme Ordas. In an exclusive to Classic FM, Ordas said: “Music plays such an important role in animation, and I learned a great deal throughout the process. As for my own music, I mainly hope people feel that it really belongs with the images, that everything is in its right place. “I like to think of music as a kind of third character in a film, bringing its own perspective and telling another story beneath what we see. There’s often a touch of nostalgia in my writing too, and I hope that comes through.” The animated short is directed by Sylvain Chomet, and narrated by Robert Pattison, with its star-studded voice cast including Josh O’Connor and Rihanna. The film, which is entirely hand-drawn, depicts the real-life story of Christian Dior, who gets a request from Hollywood legend Marlene Dietrich, in need of a new dress for her first ever colour film. 608 likes · 05 Nov 2026

Meowrice Ravel… 🐈‍⬛ French composer Maurice Ravel was a lover of Siamese cats, and would converse with them in their own language even when guests were in the room. When he did pay attention to his human visitors, he spoke to them endlessly about his cats, and when he wrote to family and friends, his letters were often filled with several pages describing their every move. While it’s not known definitively how many cats Ravel owned in his lifetime, at one point there were at least seven Siamese resident in his house, who were free to roam around his music room and climb onto his piano. He also frequently gave shelter to street cats who needed a warm place to stay. And his love of cats found its way into his music - his opera 'L'enfant et les sortilèges' features the famous 'Duo miaulé' (meowed duet), where two singers meow back and forth. Swedish-American conductor Herbert Blomstedt has died aged 99. One of the most revered conductors of his generation, Herbert enjoyed a remarkable career spanning more than seven decades, leading some of the world's greatest orchestras, including the San Francisco Symphony, Staatskapelle Dresden, and Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Remarkably, he continued conducting well into his late 90s, remaining devoted to music until the very end.
