Recovery doesn’t end when the headlines do. Following Hurricane Melissa, CLF launched the Rebuild & Reimagine Fund to support community-led recovery and strengthen the systems people depend on every day. Fresh Milk made this announcement public at the opening of the exhibition at Caribbean Brushstrokes Gallery (@caribbeanbrushstrokes) on Wednesday, October 14. As part of the continued collaboration between Fresh Milk and the Clara Lionel Foundation, this Fellowship serves to uphold the firm belief in the value of our island’s artists, and the need for sustained tangible support for their work to engage and develop within our society. This 10-month programme includes financial support, a research trip facilitated with a travel stipend, and a closing public exhibition that will be curated by Fresh Milk’s Founding Director, Annalee Davis (@annalee.devere), and Director of Programmes Katherine Kennedy (@kathkennedyart ). This second edition of the Fellowship includes a new thematic strand, which will be undertaken by ceramicist Juliana Inniss, dedicated to exploring historical and contemporary connections between Barbados and the Gullah Geechee community in South Carolina. We extend a heartfelt thanks to all those involved in our informative roundtable discussion, our nominators, and of course to the @claralionelfdn for their trust and investment in nurturing the cultural ecosystem in Barbados. This summer, our partners at PROFAMIL brought together children living in vulnerable communities across Haiti for weeks of creativity, learning, and connection. Through painting, dance, crochet, braiding, and more, the camp gave children a space to showcase their talents, make friends, laugh, and simply enjoy being together.
