33 years ago today, Black Moon released their debut studio album, Enta da Stage, on October 19, 1993. The Brooklyn, New York group helped define the rugged underground sound of early-’90s New York Hip-Hop with dark production, raw lyricism, and a stripped-down aesthetic. The album featured standout tracks like “Who Got Da Props?,” “How Many MC’s…,” “I Got Cha Opin,” and “Buck Em Down.” With production anchored by DJ Evil Dee and Mr. Walt of Da Beatminerz, the project became an important blueprint for the gritty East Coast sound that would flourish throughout the decade. Enta da Stage helped establish Buckshot, 5ft, and DJ Evil Dee as key figures in underground Hip-Hop while laying the foundation for the larger Boot Camp Clik movement. 🔊 💡Did You Know? The only term that adequately describes Black Moon’s smooth combination of funky jazz rhythms and ferocious vocals is ‘elegant madness.’ It’s nice to see that there are still shining spots of originality to be found in a genre that’s becoming increasingly overrun by bogus bandwagon jumpers just out to make a quick buck.
