I’ve never hidden who I am, but I also haven’t spoken about it much here. Not because I wasn’t proud. Because I knew that for some people, the conversation would start with how I look, instead of who I am. This isn’t a post about proving my identity. It’s about sharing a small part of my story and there is no better time to do this then during NAIDOC week. I grew up in Alice Springs. I am a proud Eastern Arrernte woman. I’m proud of my family, my culture and the generations who came before me. They shaped who I am, and that connection has never been determined by the colour of my skin. Aboriginal people are not all the same. We don’t all look the same and we never have. This NAIDOC Week, I’m celebrating The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy. I’m grateful for the generations before me whose strength, resilience and love made me who I am, and I’m proud to carry that legacy forward. If this carousel encourages even one person to question what they think an Aboriginal person is “supposed” to look like, then sharing my story was worth it. Happy NAIDOC Week. You’re not bad at blush, you just haven’t been taught. Placement is where most of us go wrong. Keep it high on the cheekbone and take it up towards the temple. Not the middle of your face, not your jaw. Up! Then layer it. Just remember: Liquid, powder, liquid. Liquid first to build the colour, powder on top to lock it in, then a touch more liquid to bring the glow back so it doesn’t look flat. That’s the trick to blush that’s still there at 5pm Using @taniellejai brushes from her Vol 2 brush set @rhode pocket blush in sprinkle and @narsissist powder blush.
