Sophie Goodwin (@sophiegoodwin), Creative Editorial Director at @cabanamagazine, wore a pair of Bentley & Skinner Victorian jasmine diamond earrings to the @britishmuseum earlier this week.
Dating to circa 1840, each earring is designed as a five-petalled jasmine flower, set with old-cut diamonds totalling approximately five carats, and are a beautiful example of early Victorian naturalism.
This year’s British Museum Ball was artistically directed by @esdevlin , and brought together art, fashion, history and performance around the theme of red, the earliest pigment known to have been used by humans in artistic expression.
Red is a unifying thread woven through three of the Museum’s current displays: the embroidered wool of the Bayeux Tapestry, the stripes of the American flag in celebration of the USA’s 250th anniversary, and the rich hues found across 2,000 years of Korean creativity.

More than 100 years after the 1925 Paris exhibition that gave the movement its name, original Art Deco jewellery still feels unmistakably current, with a recent feature in @britishvogue pointing to a renewed appreciation for its bold geometry, architectural lines and exceptional craftsmanship.
Swipe to see an edit of some of the art deco pieces in our collection, all of which capture the optimism and energy of an age discovering what modern really could be.

An Art Deco Diamond-Set Necklace.
A magnificent Art Deco diamond-set necklace. Set with twenty-four carats of diamonds, this piece encapsulates the Art Deco period. Of structured and geometric design, the necklace sits perfect across the collar bone. This should be worn with a elegant dress, with a boat neck or off the shoulder neckline, to allow the piece to take centre stage. A truly showstopping piece.

The power of transformable jewellery.
On Monday, Bentley & Skinner hosted @gemxclub at our Piccadilly showroom for an event exploring jewels designed to be worn in more ways than one.
Led by @ilias_kapsalis, the morning looked at the craft and ingenuity behind jewels with hidden versatility: a brooch that becomes a a pendant, a necklace that becomes a brooch, a ring that becomes a bracelet, and a tiara that becomes a necklace.
Guests also had the opportunity to see how our aquamarine brooch - worn by Lady Edith in @downtonabbey_official ‘The Grand Finale’ - could transform into both a ring and a necklace, offering a close-up, hands-on, look at pieces rarely seen in this way.
Look out for more on our transformable jewels over the coming weeks.

Sapphire is September’s birthstone, and this Burmese sapphire and diamond brooch shows the stone at its most dramatic.
At the centre is a rare 25.22 carat cabochon-cut sapphire, chosen for the way it reveals the stone’s rich, royal blue colour. Around it are 12 old European-cut diamonds - estimated to weigh 18 carats in total - which create a striking frame.
Dating to circa 1900, the brooch is accompanied by an early 20th century fitted case by @wartski1865, the renowned specialist in Fabergé, antique jewellery and objet d’art.
This important piece reflects the refined elegance favoured by high society in the early 20th Century, and can also be worn as a statement pendant, with fittings to the reverse.

To mark the arrival of the Bayeux Tapestry at the British Museum, we are exploring jewels that echo the imagery and visual language of the medieval world.
Now on view until 11 July 2027, the remarkable 11th-century embroidery, nearly 70 metres long and believed to have been made in England, recounts the events leading to the Norman Conquest and the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Beyond kings, ships and armies, its borders teem with animals, birds, weapons, crosses and expressive gestures.
In medieval imagery, the peacock could signify immortality and resurrection, although it was also associated with pride. Here, the birds introduce the Tapestry’s richly symbolic world.

Turquoise has the oldest documented history of all gems. From the Egyptians right up until present day, it is adored for its bright blue hue.
A fantastic example of its use in jewellery can be seen in this Victorian serpent necklace. The individual hand-crafted gold scales are all set with turquoise cabochons, and the chain moves almost realistically and sits perfectly on the collar bone. Turquoise was once thought to symbolise protection, good fortune and emotional balance, and the Victorians associated the snake with fidelity and everlasting love, making this a truly sentimental piece.
This necklace would work wonderfully for summer events, such as a wedding. See more on our website now.

Three rows of graduated coral beads create the strong, sculptural line of this early 20th century necklace.
The necklace contains 195 coral beads in total, graduating in size from the centre, and at the clasp sits a carved coral cameo of Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers and spring, set into gold.
This is a beautifully preserved example of 1920s coral jewellery, which would look stunning against a crisp white shirt.
