“At one point during my first year in Los Angeles, everything I owned was packed inside my car. I had left the room I was renting in a hurry after reaching a point where I no longer felt safe staying there. Suddenly, I had no permanent place to stay in a city thousands of kilometres from my family. It was not how I had imagined pursuing my dream would look. Growing up in Singapore, I often felt as though I was living in the shadow of my own expectations. I was not a bad student, but I was never exceptional either. No matter how hard I tried, academic success did not seem to come naturally. When school became overwhelming, I found myself reaching for a camera. Photography became an escape. Through the lens, I discovered a way of seeing the world that was not measured by grades or report cards. In 2017, my two friends and I decided to create a trailer inspired by The Blair Witch Project for an assignment. I served as the director of photography. We camped in the woods of Punggol to gather footage. The experience was both frightening and exhilarating. The most remarkable part was not simply using the camera—it was experiencing what three aspiring filmmakers could create together. Photography had often been a solitary pursuit, but filmmaking required us to contribute different ideas and skills towards a shared vision. For the first time, I experienced the magic of building a story collectively. That feeling has never left me. In 2023, at the age of 27, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue an MFA in Cinematography at the American Film Institute Conservatory. I had to drive on the opposite side of the road, adapt to different cultures and communication styles, and learn how to navigate daily life without my family nearby.” ——————- Bao Le Cheok’s story continues on Everyday People—from the housing experience that tested her boundaries to the uncertainty of building a filmmaking career abroad, her changing relationship with Singapore and what success now means to her. Our references included The Wailing, Thirst as well as my much loved Hereditary. The story follows a dutiful son who brings home his first paycheck, only to discover that his parents hunger for his money, and for something more... To tell a funny story, we had taken the mosquitoes and babies from another shooting location where there were a ton of them.... and blasted them with 5K tungstens in order to obtain the macro shots that you see.. The shoot was a crazy one to film, with a large part of the lighting colour choices motivated by Singapore's sodium vapour street lamps and the mosquito lamp's UV light. I decided to take it to the next level as the parents morph into unimaginable creatures. Thank you for giving me the liberty to light boldly! once again, thank you The Screaming Room Film Festival by @horrorbuzz for having its screening at the Midsummer Scream Horror Convention @midsummerscream !! Thank you for the amazing Audience Choice awards in the Art House Program as well nabbing the Programmers Award! dir: Wong King Lam @dew_king prod: Lee Ying Hui Candy @likethatlor dp: 🙌 production designer: Ismiraudhatul Huda Binte Suleiman @raudical editor: Bey Shi Min @creambunny sound: Tan How Rong Josiah 21 Aug 2026 This weekend, at the horror convention @midsummerscream , two films played at "THE SCREAMING ROOM" film festival hosted by @horrorbuzz !! MIDSUMMER SCREAM convention.... Thank you for having us! It was such a great time to head into the haunted houses, explore the amazing horror vendors and experience the horror fan and cults at its best. Meanwhile... Thank you for the awesome adventures and awesome people 🤪😎. Scroll till the end for a special clip hehe. All sights captured on film...well except for the last HAHA. 30 Jun 2026 Dec 2025 - Trip to Yosemite. A winter trip to Yosemite that taught me a lot of things about fear and overcoming it. This was a trip I never regretted saying yes to and also one I'm super grateful to come along with because it became one of the best trips I have taken in my life. Thank you for letting me be apart of it!!! I never expected to meal prep for a 8-9 hour hike daily before coming back and cooking up and enjoying a huge feast. I was also treated to nature and its awe-inspiring sights. Though we had gone in winter, we were really treated with mother nature's buy 1 get all for free kinda vibe lol. We had snow storms, rain, hail, sunshine, cloud cover all in one trip! haha. I feel so lucky to be able to see all of these in real life and experience them. all sights caught on film. 29 Jun 2026 Another fun shoot with Baole @baooole and these wildly brilliant people. 🐌🐌🐌🐌🧴🧴 DP & Director : Bao Le Cheok Cam op : Kuba Zagajewski @kuba_zagajewski_dp Gaffer: Thomas Lian SFX Artist/ Prosthetic snail creation: Mallory Shofi @malloryshofi Shell fabricator & SFX assistant - Logan Wiggins @logannwiggins Production Designers: Clio Galanis and Nakalia Furumo Poston @nakaliamakesart Special love to Ler Jiyuan @lerlerlerlerler and Scott Henry #bts #shortfilm #sfxmakeupartist #snail 29 May 2026 POP POP POP 🎣🎣🎣🛸 Something popping with Baole @baooole 🤍🤍🤍 @seikoiwaido @yusukeyuwi_f @lerlerlerlerler 13 May 2026 film photos from 2025. pt iii. mostly from big sur, sf, and places up north. it was magical and can't wait to go back. shot with 50D, 200 fujifilm. 22 Mar 2026 film photos from aug 2025. pt ii. taken with 250D, 200 fujifilm and 400 kodak. road trips with fam, chasing sunsets and getting lost in the redwood forests or seeing another kind of city. 21 Mar 2026 film photos from aug 2025. pt i. with family that came over to visit. though i did become a designated driver (working 12 hours a day LOL), it was fun. also a weird realisation that time passes so quickly... your parents become older... your elder sister is growing up and moving on in life. also crashed a Singapore national day celebration on a foreign land. shot mostly with 200 fujifilm and 400 kodak. 20 Mar 2026
